Windows is tested software running hundreds of millions computers worldwide. REAPER is only tested randomly by a few users, and updates to it frequently introduce new bugs. Rarely showstoppers, the app will run, but various things that mess up your workflow.
I've never had a Windows update cause a single issue since my first DAW on W2K, while both OSX and Ubuntu updates have caused minor and serious disasters on various work and personal machines.
I don't think MS is a particularly great software house, a lot of the stuff they put out blatantly sucks, but considering the volume they are dealing with, their OS update track record is spectacular.
