What I did:
-- new project
-- insert several tracks
-- set track 2 to be a folder
-- see the end-folder icon appear on the last track
-- set track 2 to be an ordinary track
The end-folder icon on the last track does not disappear.

Ok, reproduced.
But this step needs to be done with mouse drag (dragging tracks into the folder track):

If you do this step via mouse click on the icon, the last track doesn't have a end-folder icon at all ...

Oops, maybe I missed a step: click a later track to make it an "end-folder" track

The ancient bug, but...I never would have thought of it.
Let's see the short video, which shows what does the bug can lead to:
I'm speaking of this blue folder icon of course.

Oh man. It's an ancient Reaper bug, but I couldn't find a proper thread where Justin have read something about it. It's Reaper bug, not your theme. I think everyone thought it's just a visual bug, but I showed that not only visual.

If you have a folder, and set the parent back to being a normal track, the track at the end of the folder retains that state.
Here's a previous thread for it, at any rate: http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=138043

Still there.
It's not just a visual bug - the track is still flagged as being the end of a folder, so if you make another folder parent they'll automatically link up.

Thanks for clarifying... ...I noticed that too, but didn't think it was a bug, I thought it was a feature.

Old thread, and I can't remember if this has been fixed or not, but I just noticed this happening in Kenny's video on Folders vs Busses vs Groups vs VCAs at about 6:30. Just thought I'd mention it.
Edit: also in a more recent one from 2020, VCAs or VCA Lead & Follow Tracks at about 5:15.
