Scrub sensivity should follow horizontal zoom
IMO when zooming in very much into a waveform, scrubbing is too fast. Zooming out pretty much and scrubbing becomes too slow. Would nice if this could be more "dynamic" depending on the current horizontal zoom level ...
More opinions on this?

For scrub mode I think Airon was saying it should be independent of zoom level...

mmh, what do you personally say? i don't have much experience with scrubbing. just tested it and on detailed zoom, the mouse cursor is "flying" over the right (or left) edge of the arrange window, causing Reaper to scroll automatically. Doesn't feel righ to me, as you have to move the mouse very slow and precise when zoomed in that much ...

I think it should be the way it is.. if you want more precise stuff when zoomed way in I think jog mode is better (since it's zoom-dependent).. if you scrub too slowly anyway you wont hear much... (or maybe in looped mode it makes sense to be zoom dependent).

I've been checking out pre5 and this whole version for the first time today - the whole of this 2.4 release is very impressive! Great job Justin and the team.
Have to say I agree with Dandruff on this point - I've been finding that when I zoom in, scrub moves too fast; too fast to enable precision. So I concur that making the scrub speed zoom dependent would make a lot of sense.
I understand what you're saying about jog Justin, but to me the ballistics of scrub just make it feel more responsive and accurate so out of the two it is the one I'd prefer to use at higher zoom levels... but can't easily at the moment because it becomes too sensitive. Hope that makes sense.
Cheers
Ben

I either must have stated something stupid, incomplete or it was a bit misunderstood.
Scrub speed does need to go down a little as you zoom in. Automatic scrolling means everything pretty much flashes by, and that makes it harder to locate certain cues/events. With Autoscrolling off, you become lost quickly.
Past a certain zoom-out level it is best to stay constant, because at those speeds you're unlikely to hear any meaningful detail. It's the reason the 1xspeed option is there. I find it highly questionable to even allow scrub speeds above 1x, as there are better options for 'scratching' the audio out there.
I've stated a number of things about the scrub in the 2.4Pre5 version in the "Pre5" thread of this forum.

Exactly - this is precisely what I have issues with. Points well made, Airon.

2.4pre6:
zoomed in very much: is fine now IMO (mouse not too fast anymore)
zoomed out very much: still too slow mouse movement IMO

Agreed. Perhaps minimum and maximum scrub speeds should be user definable?

I am happy with both of these!
but the up close loop scrub is too sensitive, movement wise.
