Default Control surface not working even though it's assigned to an action

Hi,

I'm trying to toggle track muting using an Akai LPD8. I can assign it to the relevant action and the 'last action' notification says that it's worked but nothing's actually happening.

I've had no problems using the pads on an Alesis V61.

I'm sure I'm missing something simple - any ideas what it is?

This 'ere video shows the problem.

Linux (Zorin), native Reaper.

I've just tried something I should have tried before - using the pad to send a CC rather than a note - but to no avail.

Reaper still recognises the pad and lets me use it to assign a CC (Ch14, CC102) to an action (Toggle mute on Track 9) but it doesn't actually toggle the mute, despite the last action showing as 'Adjust track mute (via surface)'.

Am I alone in my torment?

Hmm.

Torment is probably overstating things.

Am I alone in my ambivalence?

Now we've gone from one extreme to the other, just as one of the LPD8 pads could if I knew how to fix what is going wrong.

Am I alone in my ultimately inconsequential but emotionally tangible frustration?

I'm not familiar with your device but I have an akai mpk mini mk2 and there is an editor for it that I had to download from their site. Inside the editor I had to change the pad to CC to do something similar to yours. Before I did that it was binding the pad to a note and when you press the note on the keys it was also triggering it.
I don't know maybe if you tried this already, but all I can think was this solution.

Hi Mevzu,

I used the editor to set everything up but there was something going wrong in Reaper. It was almost definitely my fault, not Reaper's.

It's working OK now, though I don't know why.
