Default Solo/Mute buttons on Editor?

Hi there!

Is it yet possible to show the Track's Solo/Mute buttons inside the Stem/Midi Editor windows?

It's a very simple thing which would be super handy to listen whatever you're editing,
without having to close/resize/move the window, find the parent track, click on the Solo/Mute button, and then Open or Maximize the Editor window again..

Thx!

Yes - the solo-mute-button in the editor would be a slight improvement!

In Midi editor go to Contents->check Track list. You'll get what you want.

Sorry, but HTF no. Not even remotely the same thing.

I have a second monitor, I can put the arrangement screen there and have a glorious 5k retina sized track selector, and it would still not be even remotely as useful (or, for, say, Cubase expats who've come to take it for granted) as a simple solo button in the MIDI Editor.

Now from there, squish that entire second monitor into a tiny little micro lego sized menu, and THAT is the amazing revelation of a workflow savior that all you ME Tracklist lovers always seem to be evangelizing about whenever this topic comes up

It's bullshit. It adds an order of magnitude of unnecessary complexity to the simple task of choosing an instrument.

And for those of us are slogging our way, day in day out, through 100+, 500+ or more instruments, this becomes a major annoyance, like having chunky sand pebbles in your shoe.

Yeah, I still like the shoes. But cmon, just shake out the fucking sand pebbles. For the love of god, please just add SOLO and ARM buttons to the MIDI editor.

...excuse that strained metaphor. Feel free to +1 this if you feel me in 2019. Surely I can't be the only one here.

Hi. I think (but not sure - hence the question) that you asking for SOLO and ARM buttons somewhere in the piano roll area, rather than in the MIDI track view?

I could see that that would be useful if you have 500 MIDI tracks and are currently working on a specific track in the editor and scrolling through the track list is cumbersome.

But what about when you have multiple MIDI tracks loaded for editing in the MIDI editor (as I often do)? How would Reaper know to which track(s) the proposed solo and arm buttons relate to?

Well, "simply" addressing the command to whatever Track the Stem is placed in/originates from.. ?

IMO this Solo/Mute buttons in the Editor, and the inability to do one-click "Purge all Samples" on all Kontakt instances at once,
are still the two main culprits in the whole Reaper/Kontakt experience..
(the rest being right on the spot ofc)

Let's hope somebody fixes it someday!

Yup

The way Cubase handles it:

SOLO solos all tracks visible in the MIDI editor.
ARM arms the track corresponding to your last touched note.

Last touched note also brings to foreground the midi CC lanes for that track, which is great when you're building up sections of virtual instruments.

All this presumes a one MIDI editor per project workflow, but I'd imagine the "last touched" approach could be applied to a multi-window workflow as well.
