Default More Brilliance from Buskers - How Would One Handle This?

I was waiting for the blue line in Chicago last week, trying not to pay attention to Gothy McPiercyface sitting next to me with her headphones half off, sharing with me whatever screamo-emo band she desperately wanted me to know she listened to.

Then, off in the distance, round about the other end of the subway station, the sound of farking angels. I had my audio workstation on me, but no mics. So I left my mopey neighbor for better things, and busted out the best recording device I had. My phone.

It came out with this...

That shit was better than when The Temptations did it way back when. Seriously.

What would you do to clean that up as much as humanly possible? Right now, I've split it into a right and left track, panned each out hard, put a tiny bit of delay in the right channel, and put a big wide band pass filter in place to quiet the top and bottom ends.

Now what? Anything, or do I just live with it?

Jerome,

How brilliant is that? Great harmonies and voices -- and passion.

If I were you, I'd go back and find them --- this time taking better equipment --- or see if they show up at a venue.

Maybe some tech head will show up here with some salvage advice.

Thanks for sharing --- I agree with you, its really good stuff.

I'd hunt them down and try to bring them into my studio, record a CD and get them to sell it while they are busking and take a share, after expenses of course.

They sound GREAT!

I don't record anyone without their permission. "The Way You Do the Things You Do" is owned by EMI. I have no idea if they have worked out a license or not, or if EMI is going to care about four teenagers singing one of their songs on the street, or what legal protections come into play for buskers. You might contact them directly if you are concerned about it. None of that concerns this actual recording.

The end result of all of that is the copyright on the recording belongs to me. The copyright on the performance is owned by the kids in the subway. The copyright on the song belongs to EMI.

Wow, they sound great! I'd love to hear what they can do with some original material.
