OCD in its finest form!

As an ex-K1 owner I find this utterly fascinating, but it does leave you wondering about the massive amount of effort the guy expended doing this. ALso, WHEN can we reap the benefit of his work?

I would love to have a truly realistic sounding Kawai K1 vsti.

Amazing when someone has the knowledge and the skills to tackle a project like that.
And the examples sound fantastic.

Thanks Nils!

You have done that with unbelievable commitment and love.
Great!

At the same time a memory of the 80s, when this kind of
ROMplers were just "in". One of the moste famous was the
Kawai k1, indeed!

Thanks for the heads up on this, and thank you Nils for making this! I was slightly familiar with the "little brother" of this synth, I forget the name but I think it's 2 or 3 octaves with a hard L/R split and more limited presets. I learned that the K1 has more options and actually saw one on Craigslist a few months back but apparently wasn't quick enough, and I don't really have the room anyway. I've downloaded it and expect to donate, this is great stuff.

VST of the year for me, one of the greatest sounding synths of all time.

Agreed! Sounds at least as good as my starry-eyed memories of what my K1M used to sound like...

Oh dear I may have to go off at a tangent from my current musical endeavours for a while...

Wow, very 80s, and tonight is the local 4 hour back to the eighties radio show, lol

I just put a js moog filter and the new free TAL 80s style reverb in the chain, very evocative sounds!

Yep pretty great stuff, but I doubt that monophonic mode is supposed to be so clicky.

FYI on this, this thing is absolutely killer for super modern bass music, been slapping OTT all over this and because the hardware noise floor isn't there, it is seriously beefing this up to some absolutely super heavy sounds.

Very much still my favourite synth, twenty odd years later hahaha.

Yeah, exactly.

Some sounds are really good - and distinctive - so the K1 is still a great
sound player today!

The "Kawai K1v"- VST is the exact opposite of today's
exuberant giga-large libraries.

Many current, often very large libraries are annoying because
of their incredibly large sample collections and only moderate
quality.

In the eighties, ROM memory was very expensive - and all
engineering focused on getting as many good sounds as
possible out of a very limited ROM. And it is beautiful - thanks
to Nils! - that we can profit from these engineering
achievements today.

Nils' K1v updated to version 1.04
https://www.nilsschneider.de/wp/2020...-version-1-04/

change/fix list:
* [Accuracy] LFO behaviour didn’t completely match hardware behaviour, especially for higher speed values
* [IMP] Window size is remembered when the plugin editor is closed and reopened
* [FIX] In Solo mode, audio clicks were audible when playing a note while another one was still playing
* [FIX] Audio processing could lead to clicks/pops in some hosts.

P.S.: I haven't tried this update yet, personally.

actually it is already at v1.08

v1.08

[Accuracy] PCM waveforms cannot play a lower frequency than 25.6Hz and are pitched up one octave when a note that is too low is triggered.
[Accuracy] Fix Single Cycle Waves with notes below C-2 were clamped and played as C-2 although hardware can go down to C-4 if keytrack is off
[Note] The two change above fix some Singles being incorrect when compared to the hardware, for example iA-8 GongOfKngs

v1.07

[IMP] Window size is now preserved by storing it as part of the plugins data chunk
[FIX] Audio pops/clicks when a voice begins, even more present if decay time was greater than zero

v1.06

[FIX] Fix very large UI on hosts like Orion because Orion claims to support resizing but then fails when being asked to resize.

v1.05

[FIX] Fix possible crash when changing patch by program change while UI is closed
[CHG] Shrink default UI size to 1024×576 to give smaller screens a chance to reach the resize handle

Oh, I see, thanks for info, grobsen.
I was on different page on Nils' web.

EDIT: BTW, shame that downloadable archives share the same name even if they are different versions. So, thanks again, I had renamed the download from K1v.zip to K1v-v1.04.zip, which I corrected now to K1v-v1.08.zip thanks to your post

Default reabank file

Here's a reabank file I built for Nils' K1v.

(You need to remove the ".txt" suffix)

k1v.reabank.txt
