Default Music notation symbols missing ?

Hello, i installed reaper 5.981 64bit on Win10.
The music notation symbols are missing, i see just rectangles (see att.picture).
Any idea what causes this ?
Already reinstalled reaper twice, same thing.
Regards, Karl

First guess is it may be missing a font? I am not sure how to fix that though if you have already re-installed REAPER.

Hi Martifingers,
Window firewall seems to cause this problem.
When the firewall service is disabled Reaper doen't display any music notation symbols.
So for some weird reason w10 firewall must be enabled/running for the notation symbols to appear in Reaper.
Best regards Karl

I am bewildered by this but perhaps someone more tech savvy than me can explain. I am also surprised you discovered it!

no way... that would be a major bug or totally crazy... the firewall being on or off should have no effect on reaper

I'm running Reaper on W10 Pro with a minimum interference from windows (only basic services are enabled).
So when W10 firewall service is disabled, no symbols in Reaper.
Enable the service, restart Reaper and the symbols are showing up.
I got a clue when i tried to install some fonts for other notation software, got errors like 'this is not a valid font' etc. Did some research and found out that w10 firewall is the blaim for those errors. Try this out and let me know i'm not dreaming.
Best Regards, Karl

What a crazy solution - never would've thought of it myself!
