Manual is much bigger now. Why?
I notice that the PDF manual for Reaper 5.982 is about 23 MB in size, almost twice the size of the manual for 5.581 (about 12 MB). It's not really a problem, but I'm just surprised. I'm curious - what might account for the difference?

Hi rednoise,
Thanks for asking!
This is in response to a request from the REAPER visually impaired users group for me to add tagging to the PDF when rendering the final document. This enables visually impaired people to use screen reader software, thus enabling them to access the document. Unfortunately, this does significantly increase file size. You'll find more details about this on the What's New page (page 14).
I'm sure that people will agree that the relatively minor inconvenience of downloading the extra 10 MB or so is well worth it for the benefit it brings to others.

I find it very appropriate that the User Guide is bigger than the installer.

Ha ha, just like it used to be back in the day when the installer was only 3 or 4 MB!

Ah, so. I figured there was a real reason. I never had to deal with creating PDFs, but I'm aware there are tons of arcane options that affect the final rendered file size.
Now that I don't don't have to rely on a dialup connection and store my files on 5.25" floppies, the file size isn't a problem for me.
The REAPER manual is great. I refer to it constantly. One of these days I gonna read it start to end like a novel.

Thanks Geoff, Until just this month most of my travelling has been to Geelong to visit my Mum (96). Sadly that's changed, but we expect to do some more varied travelling over the next few years and with an overdue visit to my sister in Coles Bay being somewhere on the agenda. A James Boag would go down very nicely!
