added again some little FR a few minutes ago.
I'm the only one doing this... No one has ideas for improvements ? No one wants to post them in the FR ? Am I the only dummy not to know how to use Reaper ???

I'm not a wiki-using person....

Was it you asking for loop record and paste insert? Both are already provided.

I've posted a couple of things in the wiki. But, it just seems easier to post them here. I guess that way everyone can react to it, bandy ideas about, etc.

Thanks for updating it! I actually look at that list a lot to keep track of what needs to be done...

Hey Christophe !
Sorry, I did not remember you were belonging to the developers team ! ("french lover", ça sonne pas comme "administrateur", ou "développeur" )

I
update it each time i have an idea or a suggestion.
Mainly in 2 categories :
1-missing features,
and 2-what could make Reaper quicker to use (less mouseclicks) and a better interface ;

There are additions nearly everyday (Reaper makes me want to make music), and i suggest on the threads everybody to make their own additions..

à +

PS : si il y a des français ds la team, pourrait-on espérer une traduction, ou un manuel en français ??

Hello
I went on the Wiki to add/delete some stuff (for example the CPU performance request, as it has been added in v0,954), and i saw a comment about a FR i had written a few days ago.

Quote:
# MEDIA EXPLORER : once a file selected, making the 'autoplay' stop playing could be useful.

* Eh? There is a stop button in the Media Explorer window, also there is a checkbox to disable the autoplay.

This is not what I was asking for. I mean, i don't ask for autoplay, but for autostop :

When the first seconds of a file got listened, and that you've checked that it is the good file, and you want to import it in your project, it would be nice if REaper could auto-stop the file playing once you've dragged/dropped it inside your project, without even having to hit "stop" (an "intelligent stop" feature, in two words...)

As i'm asking for media preview, let's go for another one :
For long takes (some of them beginning with silence), it would be pretty good to have a cursor to move forward (navigate) in the file to preview(in order to play just the end, for example).
Not useful for short loops or one shot samples, but good for longer takes where only one part in the end would differ from the others...
(Else it is quicker to import all the files and then delete the unwanted, but it is a bit absurd to load a file just to check if you have to get rid of it ! )

Ahh I see now, good point. I will add that and Justin might add a seek bar in the media explorer eventually.

... and i still have 4 big requests for next versions
(I know, i have to be patient, but what i'm asking for here is to show "priority" FR, compared to "small improvements" requests) :

1 - a "paste insert" feature (or, at least, in a first time, an option to "insert silence" in the project, before copying/pasting).

2- midi pattern "cloning" (or, at least, in the first time, a "save as" option in the midi editor)

3- midi loop recording, in order to be able to program beats

4- midi CC/automation editing ;

... mmh.. Not to be "the unsatisfied guy who always claim for new features and improvements", i must say one very positive thing : Reaper is stable.
The development is quick, and makes a nice balance between "daring to put new features every week", and "keep it simple, stable & efficient".
Nice work !

Already there - both items.

To paste insert on a single track - have ripple editing on, split the clip you want to insert into at the insert point (no need if inserting into a gap) and insert.

To paste insert into all tracks, same routine but have "ripple editing all tracks" on, and split all the way down.

Insert silence - mark the location and size of the silence to be inserted using the loop selection highlight, right click, "insert empty space in selection".

Thanks Art, i understand why you're a "help desk" !

I never got into that "ripple editing"... (never had the idea to really use it, i did not see the use for my work... But now it becomes more evident.) ;

Even it is already here, you have to make several manipulations to reach it (engage/disable ripple, etc. ... and not the same "ripple" depending on if you're using several tracks or only one ).
Not bad, not perfect, as i used to do a quick [ctrl+alt+V] in Acid to do it without even knowing if I were in Ripple editing or not.

So maybe this can be still a suggestion, to make it more explicit in the "edit" menu, in the same category than copy/paste, under some kind of name "paste insert", "paste special"... (and also a keyboard shortcut).

And, as i'm talking about keyboard shortcut : I can't really get used to [ctrl+ alt+right-click] to reach some kind of non explicit "rectangle selection tool", to select an area of clips on several tracks...
Is there any way to have an icon for such a tool ?

It's a basic feature of Reaper that it doesn't have tools. One window, one tool. But I think many here do feel that the normal windows convention for multiple selection (crtl/drag) would be more natural than the present system.

With regard to insert/paste, I understand what you say, but perhaps if you are working in a way where insert/paste makes sense, then you'd probably be working with ripple editing on for most of the time anyway? But then there are so many scenarios, it's unwise for me to guess.

Maybe a keyboard shortcut for rippling would be good, or a modifier key or keys like in Premiere Pro.

Yes, i understand the fact that there is no tools in Reaper, i can understand why, and i'm fine with that. Until now.

I have been using Reaper since some weeks now, and having not such useful tool (or a very quick way to do it) annoys me : The fact is that i believe that the application is here to help the musician. So the most common operations must be quick to make, and easy to find.

When i have a song, and want to modify its structure (by inserting clips I want to be repeated for example),when the idea comes to my mind, i want that the app gets as transparent as possible, and not checking if something is engaged or not(here : ripples), then remembering if i have to hit [maj] or [alt] or something else... (some shortcuts are quick tom remember, when you have to hit 3 keys together, it is more difficult), and if not remembering opening the "help"...

I mean, that way, having NOT such a handy tool (or a quick & easy way to reach the same result) is not an attitude, but a lack.

If Justin does not want any tool, then it should be still possible to have "paste insert" in the edit menu, isn't it ?
It is not much, and user will only have to hit one icon to make an operation he had to do in 4 or 5 manipulations before.. and without making mistakes ("oups ! i forgot to re-unengage ripple !")

I have tried working in Riple editing mode two times, but i couldn't get used to it, and it made me make mistakes.

Malcolm, you should update it to v0.958 and blur the rest of the Version Numbers in the screenshots, there are a lot of them still there (and use a stronger blur)

You should also add some screenshots of the new MCU features in 0.958.

Some pics of hardware will be good too.

Malcolm, just try to think of this with every update that makes (part of) your work an anachronism -

when we in this forum will all be dead and gone, one of your grandchildren will say to his of her kid: you know, your grandfather was the first man in the world who wrote a REAPER manual; yes, the very software that all the bands you love so much use for recording their CD's!

(I only doubt if CD's will still be around at that time... )

Default The Routing Matrix edition

Hi all,

Updates today:

- Updated Keyboard Shortcuts
- Rewrote Media Explorer topic
- Updated Installation section again
- Added FAQ topic about REAPER connecting to the Internet
- Added new topic about the Routing Matrix

The Routing Matrix:

http://documentwrite.com/reaper/inde...ing_matrix.htm

You take the blue pill, the story ends here, you wake up and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill you stay in wonderland and I'll show you just how deep the rabbit hole goes.

Cheers,

Malcolm.

The Matrix - that's a handy section to have documented.

Here, "selected" items in the matrix are white - presumably somewhere there's a colour setting to provide those you've illustrated but I can't spot one in the colour preferences - or does something else control it?

Hi Art,

The colour of the Routing Matrix squares depends on what Theme you have selected, which is why I refer to active connections as "filled" instead of calling them a particular colour. If you're seeing them as white then you're probably using the default REAPER colours.

I use what I like to call the "alternative default", which is turned on by selecting "Set colors for main window" and "Track panels: Use background" on the Options > Preferences > UI Appearance page -

http://documentwrite.com/reaper/inde...appearance.htm

Justin's talked about using these settings as the REAPER default, but it hasn't happened yet. Ideally I should use the default REAPER colours, but the default background colour burns a hole in my eyeballs ...

Cheers,

Malcolm.
