howto prevent time selection from changing automation behavior?

i'm beginning to find time selections unusable. they change the behavior of envelopes and AI in unpredictable ways. please help me to achieve the desired behavior, shown OUTSIDE of the time selection in the gif below, and make it occur WITHIN a time selection. i'm shift-clicking to enter a point, but inside the time selection, all other points move with the new point.

i've looked for mouse modifier options for shift-click, drag, etc in Envelope Points, Lane, and Segment that would allow me to "ignore time selection" but see nothing

solved, this was "Envelope point selection follows time selection for the active envelope"

this underscores my recent frustrations with time selection interfering with envelopes.

in gif 2, those points ARE NOT SELECTED. selection is performed via lasso, ctrl click, or similar methods and it results in a solid colored circle envelope point.

instead, these things are "super-selected" by the time selection, with no visual indication.

setting up scenarios where editing behavior is different based on TIME selection is going to start an avalanche of user error.

TIME selection is a good tool to use as bounds for creating OBJECT selections, but this should be visually indicated and respond to standard selection rules
