Default checking if there's any reason behind it - bass on the left

just checking if there's any reason behind it

why did they put the bass on the left side and guitar on the right side?

In those days most studios were equiped with 4 track tape machines and primitive consoles that had 3 pan choices: left, center, or right. Center was usually reserved for vocals.

I Wasn't aware of that one although I do own a copy of that song...

Some of the early Beatles stereo records were "badly panned". With The Beatles, the story is that stereo was an afterthought (maybe released after the original mono).

You also hear stories that stereo was new and they didn't know what to do with it, but that's hard to believe because I'm sure classical recordings were panned to sound natural.

That was 1965 and I'm pretty sure The Beatles weird stereo recordings were earlier than that.

But besides the technical limitations of the early 60's they usually didn't spend much time on production.
