Auto Update!
Reaper, please do an auto update so I don't have to install it every day!
Why is there no auto update, or update from within Reaper?

I cannot really blame them. I doubt many users of DAW software would want to give up control of what is installed on studio machines to the whims of the developer.
Not a case where security updates are needed, or the like, and you are given the opportunity to test on a portable install before committing.
Seems like the best solution is already in place...
(EDIT): It also installs VERY fast, as it so small..

What are you talking about? Why are you installing Reaper every day? Are you saying it somehow disappears at night?
If you're talking about version updates, you can set it to check for new versions and to inform you if they exist.

I can recommend the usage of Chocolatey. I use that for all my applications and you'll get auto update for all of them with one single command line.
https://chocolatey.org/packages/reaper
Instructions to install the client: https://chocolatey.org/install
Command to install reaper: choco install -y reaper
Command to update all installed applications: choco upgrade all -y

I for one really appreciate that Reaper never changes my installation without my asking it to. Complicated software can break with an update. I never update Reaper when I'm in the middle of a project and I sure don't want it to happen by surprise.

I'd like to be in control too.
But for those who want it to happen automatically, it shouldn't be too hard to make an option for that behaviour in the Preferences, I would think.
So, if you want that, create a feature request

It should be possible to script something like that for Windows, maybe Linux. Hadn't time yet to try that, but my experiments were quite positive.
For Mac, dunno how to extract the reaper.app from the dmg.

This. Since so much software (even really crap software) has this, I would think it's easy to implement for those who might want it.
I absolutely would not want it (and I'm offline anyway). I usually, though not always, wait a couple of days or so, like Lawrence Olivier in Marathon Man asking Dustin Hoffman "Is it safe?" Once it's been up for a little bit and I don't notice any major shit-storms being talked about on these forums, I install it.
