Default Pro Tools 2020

Ooh ... new version of PT just released, and it has FOLDERS!!

Now why couldn't Reaper think of that?

This would be useful also in Reaper:
  • Edit the folder itself, thereby automatically editing the “member” tracks simultaneously

Yeah, that might be neat. Like an edit group. You time-select on a folder track to cut/copy/delete and paste stuff on the child tracks. Optional of course, but where would you expect to find that option ? Probably in the context menu of the TCP/MCP.

It may be a good step towards full edit groups.

I came to Reaper from SONAR and it used to amaze me how late to the dance AVID was on a lot these features. When I used SONAR back several years ago it had way more features than Pro Tools even then.

Old Protools versions can open it, and everyone has PT11 licenses on their iLoks. It's what I use to 'resave' sessions I get in case of problems. I don't trust Protools 12 and up any longer, as I only use it to peek in to sessions or check Reaper export sessions.

I had to use Pro Tools HD (1999-2000) for radio broadcast imaging work. Pro Tools sucked then, sucked a year later, and sucked every effing year since.

Remember when Avid was charging people like $30-40 per phone call for tech support when the problem was on their end, and NOT the user's computer? Remember how many millions they made from those phone calls?

Remember all those DAE errors? For no reason?

Remember when you needed to buy FXpansion's "VST to RTAS Wrapper" or whatever it was? Now a redundant piece of software?

Remember when RTAS was abandoned out of NOWHERE in favor of AAX?

Eff Pro Tools. Seriously. Forever.

Pro Tools is for Slow Fools.

ProTools 2020... It just looks so weird. Like Commodore2020 or something.

I have only a miniscule experience with Pro-tools in that an LE version came with an interface sometime and I tried it, did't like it straight away and forgot about it. But I am sure it has merit simply cos some great people use it and I don't claim Reaper is perfect. However it is striking how many features REAPER has that I totally take for granted that turn out to be missing or hard to implement in other DAWs.

I suppose it's a lingering sense that somehow Reaper must be trying to play catch-up with other DAWS when the truth is not quite like that.

BTW I notice that Pro-tools folders can only be 8 levels deep. Is there a similar limit in Reaper? I haven't been aware of that but may simply not dug in so deep!

I must admit some recent unfaithfulness when I downloaded 15 Gb (!) of Cubase to see what had changed since er..2010? They are offering an extended trial cos of lockdown. Sad to say the installation procedure failed (USB licenser missing etc.) and was so astonishingly involved that I deleted the lot. Life - even with isolation - is too short I decided. My fault no doubt but the contrast with a REAPER update was dramatic.
