Default Howto : avoid the system free space to decrease ?

Hi
I have a project which, when i start it i have 142 MB system free space, and while i keep on playing it or modifying it, i end up very soon with only 42 MB free system space...
Why ?
Is there any option to avoid that ? (i guess there is something in the prefs, but i am not sure, and don't really dare to touch if i don't know).
THank you !

Long Answer: I think (could be wrong) at least some of that is virtual memory that would get reclaimed if you needed it, assuming that the resource which used it is no longer requiring it.

Observation: 1/2 GB of total memory is not a lot for a modern daw system. Your 511mb total in that screenshot seems to imply that you may not have even that much in real ram.

How much ram do you have on your system?

Short Answer: If your projects run without issues, I wouldn't worry about it.

Same/similar experience/observation:

I also had no satisfactory explanation forthcoming. I've stopped viewing the Performance Meter and have been a much happier Reaper user ever since. What the eyes don't see.....

Might be...options>prefs>general>store multiple redo paths.

Try untick it and see if that helps. If not may be try some of the other undo options.

I have 512m ram, and this project is a small simple project (about 20 tracks), but i DO have issues : it stutters, glitches, crackles while some 30-35 tracks projects can play fine. ANd there is no "weird" efx (like with a lot of latency, etc).

And i usually don't have the perf meter enabled : i had to switch it on because i didn't understand why did such a simple project wouldn't play.
