Palestinian Reaper users are storming the Cockos gates for Reaper 4. They heard it's "The Bomb".

I'm not sure if someone already mentioned, but is the pre-release open to public or will people be selected by physical attractiveness? <combs hair>

And don't forget to brush your teeth!
If I remember correctly... you will be asked to keep the pre-release info confined to the pre-release forum. Which means no discussion or 'linking' to the info (what happens here, stays here!).
Once upon a time there was also a password required to download a beta version. I don't know if that will return or not.
I'm sure the proper procedure will be posted when the time comes.

Could be a good idea - since I suffer from OldTimers disease, I`ll keep forgetting it, so I won`t get in the way of Alpha & Beta testers that actually have a clue this time....

Those "priority" levels are set by the FR requester though so they don't necessarily mean anything... If we want to sort it by highest votes though....
Here's the top 10:
1. 392 Area Selection
2. 291 Edit Groups
3. 250 Proper Stereo Panning
4. 202 Mouse Customization
5. 173 Elastic Audio
6. 172 Vertical Meters
7. 172 Pencil Tool
8. 156 Video Improvements
9. 154 Metering Enhancements
10. 147 ReaEQ Realtime Spectrum Analyzer
10. 147 Media Bay

I suspect (or at least I hope) that the big news arent from either of your lists.
It will come from this one http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.p...ghlight=reaper
Things like a proper GUI, Live like mode or even notation are pretty popular.

Don't forget the cross dressers and transgenders - they're a big Reaper demographic.

ah they are the poor Reaper "WAGS", so dedicated to their men-folk that they'd queue up to get v4 to indulge their other half's silly music habit.

So, is Brice on board?
Or is he redundant?
Or are you just gonna add a heap load more features?
And this thing that bites is just gonna keep on biting?
I love it anyway, top softs and all that.
But god, what a dream this would be if there was some gui sense.
then charge 300 dollars - i don't care.
still. love.

A few weeks later those were the craze, and of course our MTV-lady or whatever she was bought them too, he he. But it was too late.)
But a public beta cycle would be much better anyway, I think. Some companies handle it that way, you just have to make sure that all know it's at your own risk and how to use image-software to backup your settings nicely.
If the "Reaper is too difficult to understand" threads that come like mushrooms in autumn make any sense, and I guess they do in a way as all users are created equal - it would certainly be good for all sides to start a public beta.
Maybe with some rules - "keep the debates out of here" and "besides bug-finding, read what has already been suggested before". Shouldn't be too difficult with all of us nice people in Reaperland... I think it always is preferable to include all levels of Reaper-skills in beta-tests.

Rest assured, there will be a public beta. That's what Schwa means by "the REAPER 4 prerelease cycle".
If things haven't changed since Schwa opened this thread it will start somewhere end of November (hey, btw 23rd would be a huge birthday present for ole gofer *winkwink*). And of course everybody will be invited to have his say on what's presented.
Last time it went just like an extended version of our ordinary pre-release checks running over a couple of month. This time I could imagine a separate project in the Issue tracker will be used for the bug tracking. But the main part of the exchange will (most probably) take place in the Pre-Release forums.
So, as usual with Cockos' Reaper updates, everything will be there to be chewed through, tested and criticized for everyone interested. Great times ahead .

Give ole gofer his birthday present!!!
I so can't wait for a peek at 4. Sadly I'll be unable to do any real DAWing during those first weeks of the pre. But I'll enjoy reading the WhatsNew and all your comments on it. Because vicarious enjoyment is better than no enjoyment at all.
It's sure been a while (by Reaper standards) since the last public update to 3.......

I'd like to see "Hyper Inserts" that run at x16 or x32 oversampling so the plugins can all be down-sampled once at the end of the chain, instead of what we have now, which is a bunch of plugins that up-and-down-sample several times in any given chain.
This would require plugin makers to have that option as well, but two coders I know say it isn't hard to implement by any means.
I think it was my idea but Andy Cytomic agrees, in this very interesting discussion on aliasing.
http://www.gearslutz.com/board/so-mu...is-thread.html
We hate aliasing because it's comparable to a black hole: you can't see it too well but everything around it is influenced by this nasty life-zapping ugly artifact which is multiplied by delays and reverbs.
