Default How to make selected track turn white when tracks are colored?

How can you make the selected track turn white when tracks are randomly colored? I like the appearance of colored tracks. Easier to tell tracks apart at a glance and easier on the eyes for me.

The cost of that is not being able to see the selected track(s). They turn a different color if selected when colored. Yes, it's a lighter shade of the original but it literally looks like a different random color and the end effect is you can't see it highlighted from the rest of the tracks.

Can I randomly color the tracks but make selected tracks turn bright white?

This is exactly what I do in my themes. But recently I have done a pure white to 50% white transparency gradient which leaves a bit of the original track color in the trasparent part.

You have to modify files in your theme.
tcp_bgsel.png
and mcp_bgsel.png

paint white pixels without transparency in the inside

Thanks heda!
OK, I think I see what's going on. You basically have to manually fill in the transparent area in the image? (The white background was already set to 100% opaque.) Looks tedious as I don't do graphics work in any way shape or form...

Care to share those files? (the pure white version)

Thanks for the answer though! (In case I get ambitious later on.)

oh wait... it may not work if the tracks are tinted...
it only adds brightness but not 100% white. It would work with other colors, like yellow for example.. but white doesn't.
I changed the tcp one to white, while keeping the mcp one in yellow as I had it to compare:

mmmm

That's the thing. If you have all one color tracks, highlighting it works. But for multiple colors it just has the effect of turning the track a different color.

Or maybe there's an easier way? Different color set or something?

I'm looking for random colors with the ability to see selected tracks visually obviously. The coloring needs to be random because I won't spend any time trying to pick colors for tracks otherwise.

I like black even better!

I tried that file and it didn't look like your example at all...

Is there another theme setting I need to change or could that have been the wrong version of the file?

it is not 100% black as you can see there is still a bit of color but it is very dark at least.

I don't know why it doesn't work for you... are you using the default theme unpacked? maybe it is just that you need to reload the theme or restart REAPER?

Discovered my amazingly stupid user error and all is well now!

I see the MCP images need editing as well but I'm half way there.

Thanks for the help! This is perfect.
