I'm creating a document detailing my Simple theme thing...
Hi Peeps
Yeah, it's me again, the Theming Addict.
I had decided to try and knock up a document which goes into a bit of detail regarding my Simple theme development.
Initially it is just for me, because I am bound to forget how I have done stuff.
It hasn't been an easy journey and I have had to ask for help along the way.
I am not sure if it would be any help to anyone else but I will share it all the same, just in case.
The official documentation is great, of course, but it is so vast that I tended to jump around and very often missing stuff. The document of mine will be based around the images and in alphabetical order. At least that is the plan, and is why this first section is all about the Envelope Control Panel:-
http://synkrotron.co.uk/REAPER/Simpl..._Explained.pdf
If you get a chance to have a look, let me know what you think. I realise that it might make sense to me, at the time of writing, but could be a load of gobbledegook.
I hasten to add that from the very start my intention was to create a pretty fixed and static layout for the various sections. Two reasons for that;
a) The code is obviously easier to understand and create and
b) Once I have all my various sections stretch out and filling the screen I never tweak again, so this is the main reason for a fixed theme.
cheers
andy

Good work!
I take it you'll be updating it with sections for the Transport, TCP and MCP?

I certainly hope so, although in a very limited way as I will not be covering any kind of what could be considered as complex WALTER.

Yes, that is the plan.
It is taking time, however because, at the same time, I am trying to understand how all of the 494 images shown here are used within REAPER.
There are quite a few that I have no idea where they are used. Many of the "general" images, for instance. I can see how the MIDI Editor uses some of the general transport images but that is about it. I may raise another post to give a list of what images I cannot find in REAPER to see if anyone can shed any light on that.
cheers

In addition to the Midi window, the general images are used for controls in pop-up windows and the Reaper plugins.
click on the I/O button and the controls there are using the general image files.

I'm following too, even though I don't really have time or inclination to eff with it, and am happily running 6.02 on my v5 theme.
But I do still have a "work in progress" v6 mod that I'll slowly add on to, and this is a cool idea. Thanks for sharing it.

Thank you Lucas
Yes, I need to have an extended poke around all the different dialogue boxes.
I think that, in the main, I will be leaving them as per the default images for now thought.
cheers

Hmmm... Progress is slow going on this.
I am amazed at how much more work goes into the MCP section.
And as I was working on the MCP part, I was becoming increasingly unhappy with some parts of its design, so I ended up spending most of Christmas Eve trying to fix those things, which I think I have done now.
Of course, it's holiday season too. Had a great day with my wife and two boys (in their thirties now) and I didn't even turn on my PC. I think today will also be a busy day away from the 'Puter.
cheers

So, spending quality time with loved ones at Christmastime is more important to you than tweaking the default Reaper 6 theme? WTF is wrong with your priorities, man? (LOL)
Money for nothin' and the chicks for free (I want my, I want my MCP...)

I am wondering how much longer this is going to take haha!
As I am going through my theme creation I am using a spreadsheet that I created which has a list of all the theme images, in alphabetical order.
So as well as writing up this document I am making sure that I have taken into account all of the images on that list and making notes as I go along.
That list is now up to 498 images and I am up to image number 244 so still quite a way to go.
Anyway, I have updated the PDF link in the original post and I'll post the link here too.
Obviously very much Work In Progress...

Wow!
What a monster
This thing has now sprawled over 39 pages.
I have updated the links above but I will also post a link here for Peeps that don't like scrolling up:-
http://synkrotron.co.uk/REAPER/Simpl..._Explained.pdf
This little side project has taken much longer than I originally anticipated. And, to be frank, I feel that I should have added more explanation on the code used, the images used and why I edited them.
Not sure if I have the stamina to go over this thing to add even more stuff.
What I am hoping is that if someone stumbles across this then they can use it, along with the official documentation and get a better grip of some basic WALTER code.
cheers
