Yes, a portable version by default should have zero scripts running at startup and no extensions.

That's why we want you to run it.

it's having a real difficult time scanning vsts - because its going to the vst3 plugins....
literally each vst3 plugin it gets to.

If you are not using handbrake to do video ripping/processing, I would suggest stopping those processes on the GPU before running up Reaper.

I suspect they are be loaded as part of the machine startup process, so should be easy to stop.

With the portable dumping on start, with no extensions, it does point to a system issue somewhere.

Make sure your portable version is not scanning the vst3 plugins. Ideally you only want to see cockos plugins in the fx panel.

Then you know you are running a mean and clean version. If that dumps, it means check the system for something anomalous. Maybe Justin can point you in the right direction then.

they were indeed scanning vst3, but vst3 I've used successfully in my other install.

trust me, I am definitely open to something being truly fucked in my system, but besides this weird windows explorer thing, I don't notice it.

I feel like it all got fucked after I changed the theme with the aforementioned thread

I'd also let Justin finish evaluating whatever he was, that "top window is idle" error.. I'm almost sure that is a deadlock or other hang.

Though the default theme is a good thing to be using just to keep variables down.

If you send me a link or info, I'll tell you if a reinstall might fix but either way, your 6.19 crash is still that error.

I can confirm that "Top level window is idle" is a type of hang, specifically a hung window and the code in that window is likely in a deadlock or some hang condition. Actually, I don't think it is a deadlock, just the window is hung for some reason. If a deadlock I'd expect a different message.

I just went through EVERYTHING. haha

I reseated all of the cards, the RAM, even replaced the CMOS battery cause it seemed some of the settings in the BIOS weren't saving...

and emailed the guy who helped me build this (suggested parts).

it was working great the past few days.

seems like other stuff in the system was acting weird too, though. Anyway, I restarted (btw, there were two things preventing me from restarting - Reaper (typical) and also another reaper process that said "Track FX #1" or something.

Now it's working fine.

What in the WORLD would make all of the columns of the actions list move ALL the way to the left? When I opened it up after the last round of glitches, those were moved out of the way still.

Just sayin' that transparent stuff I'm seeing, reset the windows theming and use Reaper's default. Didn't you import or make some OS level theme change not long ago? Are you certain that was fully reverted?

You could also create a new test user account in windows, login to that one, fire up reaper - don't change anything there, see what works.
