Default Bug: ReaEQ with automation stops working

Last month I encountered a strange bug (?) on Reaper 5.983:
One of the tracks suddenly stopped playing and I found out that it was caused by ReaEQ with automation of frequency. Surprisingly, the frequency seemed to be ok, but the bandwidth reported it was set to "-1.#J". (infinity https://devblogs.microsoft.com/oldnewthing/?p=5103)

I tinkered with it for while but I could not get rid of this (it kept returning to "-1.#J") so in the end I removed ReaEQ and re-inserted it again. This fixed it and I kept working on the track a few more days.

Unfortunately, the problem reappeared yesterday and it's on the same track again.

Does anybody know why it's happening?

It smells like some kind of overflow...
