Wow man, that's some serious stuff there. Hope everything is getting back to normal for you, at least as far as possible. Did something stupid on a motorcycle about ten years back that got me down for two years heavy rehabilitation, so I know it can take quite some time.

Oh cool.. didn't know he was working on a new synth. I took a look at his Twitter. Seems like he expects to release it this year sometime.
And yeah, Helm. I don't use it a lot, myself, but I found it pretty intuitive for designing your own sounds, so I do like it. I just wish it didn't have the problem with it being fixed at 44.1khz for its arp.

Dragonfly Reverb "was released late in 2018 and quickly became one of the most recommended freeware reverb plugins. It is based on the Freeverb 3 Hibiki algorithm which sounds simply amazing. The user interface is equally good, with easily accessible controls and direct access to all of the algorithm’s parameters."

Bedroom Producers blog, I see.
Lol he says "Cons– Somewhat high CPU hit" Nope! Very reasonable. Maybe slightly higher than a lot of other free reverbs, but at that point who cares.

Yep and I saw the "based on Freeverb3" and "Linux" instant download & thank-you-very-much, , looking for Linux stuff atm.
I forgot while testing to set the scaling governor to performance, still worked ok to me..

i7-7700K 0.21% CPU while playing like a crazy dude and sounds like that? i'm not complaining

Make that 0.19% with the BIOS ASUS/"Optimal"

Yeah with my new Ryzen 3700X system, it's similar to that. (With the CPU core boost "on", it's significantly less than that too.) With my previous Core i3 6300 system, it still only took around 0.8% CPU. That's fine even for that relatively lower-end CPU. That CPU use is in line with most reverb plugins that I've used. Some free reverbs use significantly more CPU actually.
Maybe when he tested, he forgot that his CPU was throttling down to a lower frequency (and the number he saw for CPU % was based on the throttled CPU frequency). It seems a fair number of people don't realize that, or notice that a particular plugin can use significantly less CPU when you add more plugins to the project (which should be a hint that the CPU is speeding up, and the CPU % has been scaled as a result).

Don't think there is any CPU issues enough to give it a Con tag slapped on it, nope.
So yep, maby he tested it on a Saturday, who knows..

On Windows with the, Windows version.. more like 0.29%..

Yep, found Dragon a while ago myself and added it to my arsenal, so will definitely add it to the list. It hasn't replaced Orilriver Reverb for me (yet) though
I will get to update the reverb section soon enough.

TDR Nova
has anyone put this in the running?
it's a dynamic eq. up until a few days ago i never thought i needed something like this. i'm a bit of a minimalist trying to use just what i need and let skill be the real secret to mixing.
on a whim i tried this on lead vocals after i just couldn't get the sound i wanted with my normal processing. it really helped. i was surprised. i'm going to keep this in my handful of useful plugins and see how it does over the next few months.

TDR Nova is excellent. You can drop the processing level from Precise to Economy if using with a computer that gets bogged down early.

If you combine this:
Creakbox Bad Boys Edition (this version worked in REAPER more than 10 minutes... without guru meditation)
https://blog.wavosaur.com/best-free-...ns-standalone/
http://distorqueaudio.com/plugins/plusdistortion.html
emulation of an MXR Distortion+ (likes SAW waves)
And OrilRiver
https://www.kvraudio.com/product/ori...-denis-tihanov
Not so bad for free stuff
---
So i've done some side by side comparison and I (personal taste) prefer the sound of Dragon over Oril.
The spin/wander of Dragon is like I want it (ohh yeah!) and Oril's MOD depth/speed goes more into chorus territory like an effect or something.
Nope, Dragon for me, but that squeal sound from hell that can happen needs to get fixed and REAPER's allow feedback is off, I checked.. LoL

For me Oril is my goto for basic (but great sounding) spaces hat I use in end-mixing. So it's my default reverb bus for any project. I used VOS EpicVerb before but sadly had to move from that as I'm moving to 64bit-only plugins. Oril has come closest to replace EpicVerb for me.
I yet have to do extensive testing to see if Dragon can do that better though.

A couple of verbs doesn't hurt for different things
In this case with just playing a synth alone, no mixing scenario no nothing, straight up, i am happy to have found Dragon, and your Oril is a Keeper also anyway, not throwing that away, LoL.
I did the moving to 64-bit loooong time ago, problem is, it did not go so well, might join you and try again.
I look forward to that sir.gremlin.

Agreed, I use OrilRiver, DragonVerb, TAL Reverb 2, 3 and 4, Sanford Reverb, Abstract Chamber, FreeverbToo and OldskoolVerb. I also found some new reverb toys that I will list when I've tested them.

Well, you're a regular in this topic so you'll find out what 64bit options I've found and use now for just about everything The above mentioned reverbs are all 64bit by the way.

Have been searching for a free 64bit tonewheel organ. Seems nobody made one, but...... someone compiled the (open source) code for Rumpelrausch AZR3 for 64bit. It's not the best emulation out there but also not bad at all, with build-in leslie and amp emulations.
Download: https://blog.wavosaur.com/download/AZR3-x64.zip
NOTE: it works without problems in my 64bit reaper install but it crashes Komplete Kontrol here.

Anybody know of a good freeware Time Alignment plugin? I bought Sound Radix's Auto Align a few years ago, but newer versions require iLok, so I'm looking for alternatives.

Will have t test it myself. If I'm not going to use it, it will at least be added to the runner-up section.

small update to the list: I added Ragnarok (because should be obvious ) under bread and butter synths, added Surge and Atlantis (previous runner-up, now 64bit) to the textured pads section and removed Plex because that website seems empty now. Also split the 32bit plugins in those sections and verified the links.

Worth paying for plugins, vsti
is there such a topic as "worth paying for" plugins for mixing and mastering? Stuff pros and semi pros find worth it. If so, I can't find it.
For a few years I was trying to really simplify what i used. I used 90% stock rea and js plugs. I'm not opposed to free plugins. But they have to pay for themselves. But a few weeks ago i sat in on a pro friend's session (I'm more in the part-time pro category. he made a few recs and he is a bit of a gear head.
1) trackspacer
2) fabfilter pro q3
so far i've only tried trackspacer and it seems worth the $75
on a tangent i ended up trying TDR Nova which, although free, rocks.

I bought the Fabfilter Pro Q3 a few months ago because of the sale they were having, never having tried it. It's something else---the interface as I moused around actually made me grin big, not an emotion I get often any more. I can see why the pros like it. And the functionality is just as amazing.
It's worth paying for.
And then there's all the Valhalla stuff and much of the stuff from Boz...

Are we talking about Dragon FLY reverb and Pushtec clone of Pulteq`s eq? getting a bit confused, but I am looking to replace some of my UAD1 plugs (inc Pulteq Pro EQ) if UAD don't manage to get my plugs fixed.

Pushtec's Leftover Lasagna is 32bit and although it takes some hints from a Pultec, it isn't a close emulation.
I will update the EQ list soon, as I've found a lot of great 64bit stuff. But to help you out right now: http://www.igniteamps.com/#pteq-x

Thanks. Tried both of them & they are sorta OK.
Happily UAD came through & My UADis are alive and kicking again, despite being EOL by several years. The support guy was amazed that UAD1s work under 64bit Win10 Pro!

Updated the EQ section. It now definitely has the cream of the crop in freeware EQ plugins. Check it out, maybe there is something you don't have yet ;-)
Did away with some really obsolete stuff, separated the 32bit-only plugins and checked/updated the links.
Have fun with it

Added QRange to the EQ section. This is now my go-to replacement for ReaEQ, as ReaEQ doesn't have the option to set bands to mid/side (or left/right only). Was first going to ReEQ for that as it is pretty incredible (also in the list), but throwing that on several tracks does some serious CPU munching. QRange is pretty light on CPU though.

I don't think you should. QRange is a linear phase EQ, so it works and sounds differently from a "normal" EQ. The most notable difference it's how it tames the transients.
If you want alternatives to ReaEQ with Mid-Side options try Melda MEqualizer and TDR NOVA 2. QRange is more of an alternative to ReaFIR on EQing.

I'll throw out A1TriggerGate as a recommendation for a gate (more for electronic music).
Very simple to use, but has some good features to it too though:
