Default Is there a way to toggle various FX's on/off throughout a song on a single track?

Is there a way to automate/toggle various FX's on/off throughout the song on a single track (similar to how a guitar player turns delay/reverb pedals on and off throughout their live set)? I'm doing an experimental song that requires lot's of switching various effects on/off. The closest thing I've been able to find is going into each plugin and hitting the "bypass" option when writing automation, but this is cumbersome and I have some 3rd party plugins that don't have bypass options. Using muted sends is also not an effective work process for this song. TIA

Well every plugin has bypass in Reaper. It's not the same as some plugins' bypass parameter. Knowing how bypass work, I suggest you instead write automation for Wet parameter, which, again, every plugin in Reaper has. In case of bypass you can get different glitches and other sort of things, while with wet you get everything smooth. You'd have to write automation for Wet parameter of each FX. Or you could just automate one and use parameter modulation for others to follow.

+1 for using the wet knob (that is built into Reaper in the FX window UI).

That's how I always automate "bypassing" a VST because I find that automating the bypass on stuff can result in a click sound when you switch it on/off. You can drop the wet knob right down to 0 and you shouldn't hear pops/clicks or other glitches from that. You can kinda fade in/out in a sense too, with the knob.

+1 for the wet knob.

Other advantage - when the envelope is down, the fx is not in effect. The bypass envelope is the other way around which at least to me was confusing a bit.

Each plugin I make a wet/dry envelope for I rename in the mcp. I use just simple names like "eq (A)" meaning it is A-utomated.
