Couldn't you just increase the width then slightly? The peak readings are a bit useless if they cannot be read I think :-) (And I actually use them quite a bit).

Unfortunately I cannot for the narrow layout becaus then it wont be much different from the default one. I had 2 options- leave it like this or completely remove the readout. I chose the first options.

hope this explains this dilema. There are quite a few compromises i had to make (I wish it wouldnt be necessary) due to the current way reaper auto-resizes some of the elements.

The themes have the same origin but are different in some aspects.

I understand that for the narrow layout, but I just realized that they are also cut off a bit in the normal layout.

I see. I was just wondering, since it is in itself inconsistent (master vs tracks), and not only in comparison to the other theme. But I see now that it is intended.

Great theme, I love the way it looks!

Just letting you know, there's a little bit of shading outside of 'gen_volthumb_horz.png' and 'gen_volthumb_vert.png' that must have escaped deletion.

The best theme for me. Layout colors are useful but more color option would be nice. Thanks.

I removed them back then because there were issues with fonts pc/mac side. I still used mac in those days

I have only the untinted versions backed. Ufortunatelly I had a drive destroyed back then when my last macbbokpro caught fire because of the battery before I managed to upload them back and the tinted ones got lost. i uploaded the regular ones :

For unknown reason, this theme contains no transport.

But yeah... it looks better on my end, because tracks in MCP are bigger/wider so it's better fit my big monitor. Thanks for this.

Ah yeah true, the transport is indeed missing. I'm sure it can be fixed, though.

Lucas: Before you do any of that, I suggest asking Janne if he can provide the icons separate from the buttons.
Hi Janne,

I have been trying Reaper for a little while and wondered if you would mind supplying the buttons icons as mentioned by Lucas.

I am attempting to make a theme using your AM theme as a construct. I'm going for a very minimalist look and would like to make the button backgrounds transparent, or at least change colour to make them appear so, without affecting the icons themselves.

I did wonder if I needed your permission to share once finished?

Thanks for a great theme btw

Hey no problem. I attached a PSD with all the toolbar elements i made for the theme- it will opn in photoshop or gimp or affinity designer. hopefully youll be able to open it.If not I can make images bu you wont have so much posibility to mod them. Let me know if you can open it.

Anyone can share my themes if there are no financial interactions involved. Im happy to see alternative versions.

Argh! lol

Janne, thanks for the effort, 10 out of 10! But you misunderstood me lol!

I wanted the icons themselves. Is there any way to get the icons without the backgrounds attached?

I mean, how do all these themes get made with different icon backgrounds if everyone has to redesign them from scratch? That's a shed load of work!

I'm no designer, but I did find a large free icon pack that I used to make the icons in my Flogic theme mod. Many of those seemed to fit, but then, those were generic things like save, open, find, etc.

This is the most time consuming part of the theme. I designed these mostly from scratch and as you say its a shedload of work.

The PSD i sent you has all the icons in one file on separate layers that can be exported without the background- the bg is on separate layers.

The default toolbars like save and undo,... have to be put in a theme with bg attached.

Other additional toolbars you can create only the overlay part and they use the toolbar_blank.png for the background. But the details of the overlay has to be made from scratch. I usually only created the default ones because lack of time.

Regards J

Does this toolbar file contain all the icons within your AM theme? Such as those used in the mixer and track panels etc?

Lets just get something straight are you refering to toolbar icons or icons images you are using for mixer and tcp ?

In my original theme i added only default toolbar icons no additional ones.
The AM theme is a mod form someone else- an user called Starchaser1987
I looked at that his image folder and his toolbar icons are different than mine, so he me must have reworked them. If you want those I suggest you try contacting him.

Secondly Mixer icons are not a part of the theme but are located in REapers install path- in reaper Options/Show Reaper resource path in explorer and there in the data folder you have preinstaled toolbar icons(the ones without the bg attached) and mixer icons (normal pngs to use on the mixer)

hope this helps

regards J

Hello
Yesterday, looking at your themes, I noticed that transport buttons in midi editor (play stop etc) are squeezed horizontally (by ratio about 0.5). Is it something which might be affected by the theme?

BTW really nice work. It seems this theme be my favorite. I like to work with GUIs which are nice, aesthetic but not busy. I like your 'FX return' MCP layout. I think additional layout with volume/balance but without a meter would make work for grouping tracks making the pair with 'fx return' working for a folder. Just an idea.

I also found your theme is nicely scaling which change of global_scale causing no major issues. Thanks for that too.

My apologies, I used the wrong terms to describe what I'm after.

I'm basically after plain icons of all parts of the interface.

You say there are included with reaper in the data folder? This includes the mute, solo, etc?

I'll check later tonight. Thanks for the tip!

ah youre after buttons. THese are all custom work in photoshop usually and are not included anywhere in those folders unfortunatly. Ive always remade them from sctratch in photoshop for every new theme- they need to have their backgrounds attached unfortunately. also its impossible to have them in a single PSD due to their different sizes and pink lines resizing logic REaper uses- its quite a great amount of time and work. unfortunatelly there is no such universal solution

The mixer icons i was talking about are icons that appear like this:

A great help is this image list from the theme development site at cockos.com:

the transport buttons in midi editor are abit of a gamble- there is no direct option to set their size- its embeded in Reaper

Glad to hear that regarding the scaling- i newer tested that because i always use it at default scaling. Also im waiting a bit becuase the uhd options are still in beta and the themes have to be rebuilt completely for HiDPI- too much work- i just dont have the time at the moment.

yeah, I know that. White Tie made us aware about it multiple times. I'm not sure the way Reaper is heading in this area, but it's possible that themes will then profit from precisely matched theme elements (which is a case of your themes).
In my case, I need to scale theme up about 130% to make it perfect. very few themes can be scaled without any gfx issues. Those glitches are possible to fix, but I'm not skilled enough to make it quick enough not spending days per theme. That's why I appreciate your themes are done properly and doesn't need fixing.

It seems Janne83 has disabled PM, so I'm going to exploit this thread to ask.

In previous posts I mentioned Jane's theme as very well done regarding possible scaling.
I'm using this theme with 1.3 global scale, in case of witch glitches are almost invisible, or acceptable to not spend a time on fixing. But while adding additional layout I decided to fix all issues I found allowing to change a scale freely.

Of course, changing scale of a theme doesn't affect volume slider and fonts sizes. But after my changes the slider remains in the middle of the slider background at least. Font sizes have to be changed in theme editor.

In addition, I re-draw a lot of theme bitmaps to provide better fidelity. For sure all theme pieces being used in MCP and TCP.

My question is primarily directed to Janne83: do you want to incorporate my fixes into your theme? I can provide PSDs and Knobman project for pan knobs.

If not, I can publish modified theme and mentioned source files. But likely I will have no time to actively maintain the theme. IMO it would be better to have it maintained by original author.

BTW the biggest issue in themes comes probably from inconsistent methods of building gfx appearance for different layouts. For example in some layouts VA, volume slider and volume label is covered by single background image, in others it's compiled by three dedicated ones. Again, it might look seamless for original scale, but it's going to be distorted when the scale changes. In case of Jane's theme, I made it consistent across all layouts, using separate, scalable backgrounds. now it's scales perfectly providing the same appearance regardless chosen global scale.

with regards

PS. I'm aware about what WhiteTie said about a future of themeing in Reaper. However I found Jane's theme worth of spending some to fix as it's going to became my default theme.

Hey if its alright i suggest you post a mod of the original theme with all your fixes.

Id like to keep originals intact as they were meant to work at default scale, but also look forward to see your work, so i think this will be the best option.

It doesn't change look at original (1.0) scale at all, except of hi-res button/knobs images which I tried to reproduce as close as possible to originals but still might differ on pixel level. Otherwise I wouldn't suggest you to get control back over it

But I'll do what you are suggesting.

Thx.

Hello
I found root cause of mentioned issue. Pink lines. You have horizontal stretching locked, while not vertical one. Lock both aspects or none. Such kind of buttons doesn't require pink lines at all. Remove them and it will return to normal appearance.

BTW I really don't understand such extensive usage of pink lines. Even for elements which are not being stretched by a layout. I can see it in all themes, while the themes would work as expected without them. An extreme example is using pink lines for knobs, lol (not your case of course)
