Default Clever way to make one track as loud as another ?

I have a straight bass DI track and a bass amp output track.
Now, the bass player uses various pedals, some of which increase the signal level.
So I wonder is it possible to use DI track as a kind of level reference to adjust level of bass amp track ?

IOW, when signal of bass amp is louder turn it down to match the DI.

You could try adjusting the EQ or using Limiter on DI. It would of been better to have DI separated from Pedals on another track to make it allot easier but it sounds like you got stuck with this current situation. There is also a Waves plugin called Bass rider that kinda works with the level .
https://www.waves.com/plugins/bass-rider

Hope this helps.

Use a a Take volume envelope to make manual volume adjustments, that's the best and most accurate way to do this.

Agreed !!!

Using an item take envelope is the perfect
tool to use for the job.

Tod showed me that tool for reducing
vocal sibilance along with many
other uses.

If you have never used that tool
in REAPER, I highly recommend that
you learn it and use it. I have
Tod to thank for showing me this
amazing tool, it has opened many doors
for me.

You will be able to get perfect results
because you will have total control.

Thanks for the replies, but I did forget to mention I'm using Reaper for live performance, so I need something that works on incoming signal rather than already recorded tracks.

in a live situation i think the only way to do that is a compressor on the amp channel.
Anyway if the bassist has so many pedals and so many different levels, he/she should work a bit to match the output volume of the pedals first of all...

Also, if it helps, the JS: Loudness Meter has an option to output a loudness envelope (click the "?" in the bottom right corner to see the option)

Edit: Only just saw that you need to do something "live". I'll leave the post, though - as it may be useful for someone else.
