Default A Feature Idea for an update

Hi, I'm sure no one will argue, that looking at your monitor screen at all those jumping levels and analyzers and plugin GUIs (and yes, I'm aware of the "show plugin gui" button) and whatever there is
affects the sound perception, usually not in the best way, at least. It is called the McGurk effect + smth else maybe.
So it would be a good thing to have a hotkey for switching into a completely black screen, because switching a monitor on and off takes a long time and not very convinient.

Well, you can already do something similar.
You need any track with whatever video/image.
Add Video processor FX to Monitor FX chain, choose Utility: Screensave preset.
Every time, when you video/image will stop, after some seconds (which are customizable) you'll see black color in Video window.

Just assign a hotkey to turn a black screensaver on.

Find scrnsave.scr in C:\Windows\System32. Right click on it and create shortcut to desktop.

Right click on shortcut. Properties. Shortcut. Enter yer key combo.

Haha, this one is way simpler.

alt-V to open the video window, doubleclick to make it full screen.

You can save it as a screenset and assign to a shortcut if you use it often.

The theme layouts can be edited to create a layout with no meters IIRC, and there is an action to close all FX GUIs. If you don't want to see anything at all, just minimize LOL, no need for all the other workarounds.

You can just close your eyes. Or maybe turn your face away from the screen?

all these are fine suggestions except turning your head (unless you are headphone users) because it changes the orientation of your ears to the audio playback. I'd also recommend not to use windows screensaver, at least in my experience it can cause some background processes to do strange things and maybe interferes with your audio drivers. of course, it may work perfectly fine, just a warning...

Also, Cockos makes a program to black out the screen except where your mouse is. This could be a nice alternative, I haven't used it in years but knowing Justin it's probably the least invasive "blackout" program in terms of system resources or whatever. Would be an awesome thing to see integrated into REAPER:

for the custom background image, you could load a screenshot of ProTools, that'll make things "sound" better

Seriously you don't need keys, screensavers, specsavers or whatever.

Can't you just look down at your desk, or at your wall maybe, or simply minimise reaper once you start playing and enjoy your wonderful desktop?

well, I couldn't fin d a good protools screenshot to demonstrate it on my dual monitor setups, but here's Cockos TunnelVision with a cool space image, and a larger tunnel than usual for tweaking some things without haven't to go back to normal desktop view

just FYI, the program places a system icon in your icon tray, use that for disabling or to access setup

get some of the eye patches that people use to sleep with the light on...

this is getting really nuts...

well I suppose you don't want to see all the action on your screen cuz it distracts you from watching you cell phone?
