Some Spectral Edits enhancements ideas
1) It would be nice if we can have pooled copies of spectral edits, then adjusting a knob in one of them, affects all pooled copies. Pool all knob parameters but not the rectangle or shape defining the frequencies and time. Maybe pool FFT size too.
2) alternatively, .. to be able to select multiple spectral edits at the same time, at least in the same item, but it would be nice if it can be across many items( at least in the same track) Then moving one knob changes all selected knobs relatively.
3) Mouse modifier in media item to create spectral edit by dragging a rectangle inside the item that defines both frequencies and time at the same time.
4) if the zoom makes the spectral edit display very small, ignore the mouse over edges to change size of spectral edit, and just detect mouse over it as move or copy spectral edit.
Thank you. Spectral edits are great!

Another idea...
those spectral edits that are pooled, which would be like spectral edit groups, could be differentiated by changing their color (now it's all white rectangles).. for example in a vocal track, we can have one group for de essing edits in yellow, another for breaths in green, and another for noises in blue. Then for example I find another noise I want to edit in the item and I can quickly look for another blue one and copy it.

can you currently copy spectral edits? I can't figure out how but feel like it must be possible.

the other day I needed to copy a spectral edit between items. Also between takes.

I think this is more of an option for certain plugins meant for it, but I would LOVE something like dynamic split but for spectral peaks -
so you could seek out certain portions of audio that fit the FIRST pattern you select and it selects them all and optionally pools them...
So you can get rid of multiple bass drum hits or coughs or squeaks or whatever

We can solo or bypass a spectral edit, so.. I was wondering if that solo signal could be routed to a new FX chain for that spectral edit and then mixed back together. It could be amazing for sound design.

Bump to say this - we really need to be able to copy/paste between items. Or have presets, or similar...

The semi-opaque horizontal handle obstructs the view of the center of the spectral edit. (The center is usually the most crucial frequency targeted by the edit.)
I would therefore be helpful if the horizontal handle could be made fully transparent while editing.
Perhaps the handle should only light up when the mouse hovers *inside* the spectral edit region?

I second all the above recommendations.
Also, not sure if this is an enhancement or more of a bug fix: it would be great if spectral edits would default to the bandwidth of the session sample rate. Especially in 48k, I have several times overlooked that the spectral edits were created with a range only up to 22050Hz, with an easily-overlooked sliver up to 24000Hz left unaffected. It's much more obvious in higher sample rates, but as I work almost exclusively in 48, I constantly have to remind myself to adjust it.

I would just love a seek and destroy mode for similar spectral signatures and auto-creation and pooling of edit boxes

There are some scripts I just added/updated for my ReaPack repository:
Quote:
Copy selected item spectral edits (new)
Paste and replace spectral edits to selected items (new, if someone need, I can make a version which paste/add SE instead of paste/replace)
Explode selected item spectral edits (new, exlploding each SE to a single item on tracks below, it maintain item offset, leave only SE area and solo it. Turn gain to -inf for SE on source item)
Explode selected item spectrally at 3 bands (was improved a bit, exploding bands to new tracks)
Add spectral edit at specified frequency
Remove all spectral edits from selected items
Toggle bypass all spectral edits in selected items active takes
Toggle bypass all spectral edits in selected items
|
Note, these scripts use /Scripts/MPL Scripts/Functions/mpl_Various_functions.lua functions. Make sure you have it installed.

This is exactly what I am looking for. I haven't used ReaPack before but installing it all now. I will let you know how it goes, and a massive thanks to you for these scripts, they look awesome.

You are crazy guys !
You want pooled spectral edits but at the same time Reaper is not able to pool audio groups ? What is wrong with you ?

How powerfull is the spectral editing in Reaper? Will it get worked on more?
what do you guys think its still is missing?
havent delved deep into it yet myself

First, thanks so much for these!
Second, anyone have a guess what I might be doing wrong?
When I try to run the action(s) to copy and paste spectral edits from one item to another, I am only getting the first few spectral edits to carry over (seven, to be specific). Sorry I am not very smart about this stuff...

Please make a mode (just paste), in the bottom line copy the settings that are statistically suitable for the editing area, as the first function, and then copy to the desired places, especially if the project is long. The simultaneous replacement function is not suitable.

Would it be possible to store 'spectral balances', say we have a nice sss in a vocal recording and then the next is a bit muffled, would it be possible to duplicate the spectral energy of the first to make them more consistent not only in volume but frequency response?
Just imagine if that could become 'search and destroy' as someone put it. Hours of editing a project down to a click of a button.
Also it would be cool to just be able to point the cursor and add spectral edits that way.

Better use of GUI for Spectral editing...
I do a LOT of spectral editing, and it sure would improve my productivity to be able to simply drag a bounding box around an area of interest in in order to create the edit. A separate window with larger control knobs in it would also be a big relief on then eyes. That control-knob window could remain on the screen or could appear whenever a spectral edit is selected (user preference). Being able to copy and paste edits instead of control+draging would also be useful. Select the edit, right-click, copy, then position the mouse where you want the new edit (or THINK you want it), right click and paste. Much easier than having to create a new one each time, or hunt through the waveform to find one and try to ctrl-drag it (assuming it is big enough in the view to see it.
Displaying the frequency under the mouse hot-spot would also be useful. That could be done with a tool-tip and enabled or disabled as a user preference.

Spectrum Visualisation FFT Size Increase Please?
The Spectral Edit FFT visualisation provides no usable resolution below about 500Hz, an option to change an item's FFT size would make Spectral Editing usable for editing low mid/low frequency content.

Yes, but before that we should be able to have "pooled copies
of any audio item editing": "Pooled Boxes" or "Meta- Items".
If we had this, these boxes would automatically include spectral
edits - and your number 1 wish would also be fulfilled.
