Default Announcement: REAPER pricing changes

Hello my friends,

We are currently expecting to release REAPER 4 sometime mid-2011.

The normal price and terms of REAPER licenses will not change from version 3 to version 4:
  • If you bought a license during the REAPER 3 series, REAPER 4 will be a free upgrade, and you will continue to get free upgrades through version 4.99.
  • If you have never bought a REAPER license, a new REAPER 4 license will be $60/$225, and will include free upgrades through version 5.99. (See here for an explanation of the difference between the two license prices.)
We also have a couple of new prices to announce, to make sure everyone feels like they are getting a fair deal, regardless of when they choose to purchase REAPER:
  • Effective immediately, new licenses for REAPER 3 will be $40/$150. The license will include free upgrades through version 4.99. The reason for this discount is to offer a fair price during the last part of the REAPER 3 cycle.
  • If you bought a license during the REAPER 2 series, you will be able to buy a REAPER 4 license for $50, after REAPER 4 is released. The terms will be identical to a new version 4 license, and include free upgrades through version 5.99. (The $50 price applies to commercial REAPER 2 license holders as well.) The reason for this discount is to say thank you.
In summary, you can:
  • Buy a new REAPER 3 license now for $40/150. Includes free upgrades through 4.99.
  • Upgrade a REAPER 3 license to REAPER 4 for free, after REAPER 4 is released. Includes free upgrades through 4.99.
  • Buy a new REAPER 4 license for $60/225, after REAPER 4 is released. Includes free upgrades through 5.99.
  • Upgrade a REAPER 2 license to REAPER 4 for $50, after REAPER 4 is released. Includes free upgrades through 5.99.

Thanks as always for supporting REAPER!

-Justin (+SCO)

REAPER remains the best bargain in DAWs and one of the best for any type of software. Thanks for the excellent responsiveness and support; my $50 upgrade fee is ready and waiting.

One additional piece of information: as in the past, there will be a months-long prerelease/preview process for REAPER 4. By the time it comes out, the feature set should not be a surprise.

Hum... I wonder what the price would be, if at any time, someone needs to upgrade from a discounted license to a full license, if they have already purchased a V2 or V3 discount license.

I bought a 2.x license and after I bought it a year passed before I actually had the time to get into Reaper. However, with the default pricing scheme I'm still having about a year (current) to play with it before I have to buy the v4 license, a very fair and generous scheme especially for the price involved. I would happily payed the 'normal' license price for the next upgrade. So, great move guys

REAPER's pricing continues to be insanely reasonable ... more so than ever in fact. We are indeed fortunate.

Att, thank you for buying a license. I see that your license emails were returned with an email error from thaimail, if you have not yet received your license, could you please mail support at cockos from a different email address?

I know it seems unfair to have bought a few days before the price change, but no matter how we made this change announcement, there would be somebody who bought a license just before the announcement.

We even thought about having a gradually decaying price, where it goes down 50 cents a day or something, but that seemed too complicated.

I have a v3 non-com license and would like to take advantage of this new pricing to upgrade to a Professional license. How do I do that and what would be the fee?

Thanks!

To upgrade a discounted license to a commercial one, or for bulk pricing or other special needs, please email licensing at cockos.

You guys are the future of business and a new model for success.

If I had a dollar for every time I've raved about you guys, I'd be buying a flight over to shake your hand personally and buy you a beer, or two, or three...

My heartfelt thanks.

i came into this thread thinking "ok, so what are they gonna charge for v.4? 70, 75 USD? it'd be fair...."

instead i see that you've all lost your damn minds and that you're practically giving reaper away.

thank you for your consideration, this was a very generous move.

$40? up to 4.99 (way over year of updates!)

i feel sick that i only paid $60 for this one of a kind host

i mean My Reaper is one of a kind, not one of you has the same Reaper as me, my menus actions, keymapping, GUI, ECT,

i'm trapped here! no one can match "My DAW"

when there are no updates i make myself new updates (today i added the Action to Render selected clips to a new track with FX & mute the original clips)

{gives self cool high five but just looks like a retard clapping from where his wife is sitting}

i relay hope this makes you guys some extra well earned Cash!!

Subz

PS, +1 on what nym said,

you lot have lost your minds!!

Default New pricing, etc

Reaper is in my mind the best by far of the various software packages I have tried and the Licence is well worth the cost. I am really delighted that I can continue to enjoy it right through version 4.

I use it for all the recordings I have made since buying it, and it is the DAW I use for my YouTube video clips on TheOldBores channel, deleting the sound from the camcorder and using the Reaper-rendered mp3s along with the video clips. Since getting my new Phonic Helix 12 Firewire I am able to record our band with plenty of tracks available and the forum is a great place for all sorts of info and tips.

Thanks all concerned for such a great and cost-effective package.

What a surprise. Reading the headline I expected to see the price increase. But to the contrary. I certainly will upgrade (oops, I already paid for that).

I thought REAPER's price was a cheap one regarding its capabilities, and was ready to pay $60 or $70 for a new 1.99 free versions to come (which is much less than an upgrade with my ancient DAW). And now you're killing me by announcing I'm gonna pay less than for my first license !

The only thing I've got to say is you're crazy fools !!!

Many thanks to the whole team.

PS : Can you tell us more about the new features on v4 ?
