hi -
regarding the tcp faders, for a laugh I tried replacing them with the little pan handles...
and i quite like it!
if there was an option - i'd probably get rid of tcp faders anyway as I have the mixer permantly on a 2nd monitor, so this is just nice and 'quiet'.
I also unroughened the 'tape' to see how that worked (i prefer pan at bottom)
bit of fun - unlike the hard graft of the author!
looking forward to more refinements from Khorus.

Hey folks.
The small fader looks good indeed at the track's fader place. But from a UI stand of view, it makes no sense. I wanted uniformity through out the whole interface and that's why I used the same faders everywhere. I'm taking note about it's size, it may be a little big but in the plugin windows and everywhere else, it looks OK... We're gonna have to make compromises here!

an understandable approach!
plus its not exactly hard for user to rename a copy of the tcp_pan to be the tcp_fader if we so desire..
e.g i've also put a little yellow border around selected mcp backround so a selected track stands out a bit more in the mixer - those personal tweaks are what makes reapers theming even cooler...

I'm loving this theme....
But I would definitely lose the tape.
And am I missing something? My "items" are reaper green and grey. I think the default should be more like the blue that is the teaser a bunch of posts back.
just my 2 pesos.

+1 for tape. I am a fan of the tape. I love tape. If I could, I would put that tape on my waffles and eat them. No, I take it back, +2 for tape.

PS...the 'tape' labels are my favorite part of this theme. Definitely a +1 for me!

This looks reaaaally nice.
Congratulations on the Beta Marc, I'm really excited about this theme.
I, for some reason, haven't been able to install it successfully though. I put the theme file in Color Themes, and it appears in the Theme Menu in Reaper, but it doesn't seem to be changing anything. I'm sure I'm doing something really dumb... any help?

Have a look at the attached file - you need to set the folder for the theme to look at. Once done save the theme and it will remember next time.
And yes this is an awesome theme!

I love the very first one you posted, the color, the track height, I think track height is important to having it look professional, the color is easy on the eyes, keep up the good work, Pro Tools 8 is the nicest looking DAW on the market, very professional, just keep a couple of versions of your theme, that should make everybody happy, thanks for your effort !

Still gotta do the transport buttons and the toolbar buttons. Few more tweaks too that I can't remember. I'm still struggling around to find the right "look".

Here's the latest news!
Hello all,
I finally managed to work on my skin/theme. I've been looking for the right look, tried many buttons, shapes and shading... I'm glad I found it tonight. I've done all the transport buttons, they look real nice, I'm happy, blends well with the rest of the "pseudo realistic" look.
Here's a quick look of the skinned Transport Bar now!
So now, I've gotta do the Toolbar buttons, they're gonna look pretty much the same. There's some little things left (group icons, etc). We're getting close to a Beta2 release!
Cheers

Beta 2 Finally Ready!
Hello all!
Yeah, it's summer, you know, I got lazy! Sorry for the lack of updates! Here it is, BETA2 for my "Reamarc" theme. Most transport buttons has been themed. I must have tried 4 different versions of toolbar buttons, NOTHING worked! So, in the end, I stole the ones from jekyll (Blue-Cube). Took off the little blue tint and there it was, still not perfect but far better than what I achieved. Kudoes to him!
This time, the screenshot is huge, I'm warning you! The thing is that I wanted to show to you guys was the main goal of this skin and show it the way it is intended to be used, on a dual screen setup!
You can take a look at the obligatory screenshot: http://oxygene.homelinux.com:8080/reaper/Reamarc-v6.jpg
So here it is, I still got some transport buttons to finish and do all the little automation icons (a PITA really) but we'll get it done! And since I'm such a difficult bastard, I'm not rushing it, I want it to be one of the best themes you guys seen!
Cheers all!

I appreciate the work youre putting into this, but if i could ever so politely put forward a suggestion...
I think the transport would look a lot better with a flat look similar to the tracks...i think the way its beveled causes it to look a bit "muddy"..same with the scrollbar.
Looking forward to the finished product regardless!

A very good effort at recreating a Protools-like look. Let's look at its weaknesses however.
I've made two observations. First, the buttons on the TCP and MCP are all framed in black colour, which visually breaks up the cramped area of the panels quite a bit.
Take a look at these three shots, which depict the same session in the exact same state. I'm not placing the as visible images here, because they're quite large (300kB and more each).
Your current Beta2 theme:
https://stash.reaper.fm/oldsb/177710/..._ThemeShot.png
The API Black theme:
https://stash.reaper.fm/oldsb/177711/...BlackTheme.png
And the Default 3.0 Theme:
https://stash.reaper.fm/oldsb/177712/...faultTheme.png
As you can see, the less strong the buttons are frames, the less cluttered the interface looks. The default theme has very light framing that actually sinks the button in to the panel, rather than making them stand out. The API theme has no framing at all, and even though it's quite colourful, it's easy to find each button in any track quickly.
Have you tried using much lighter framing or none at all ?
The second observation concerns the parameter fx knobs. The metallic highlights obscure the value pointer quite a bit. If I were you, I'd consider something that interferes less with the value-indicating line on the knob.

thank you for using your talent for the benefit of all Reaper users, your theme has inspired me to create some music that i really feel good about.
It is so "easy on the eyes" it enables me to work long hours comfortably.
thank you again and 10 thousand of us await your finished product.

It probably would but I'm still evaluating the software as it's unstable with my UAD-1 cards. If you don't like the fact that I'm unregistered, just don't use my skin and don't post. I'm spending countless hours on this, no need for this.

Yes, I understand your point. The problem here is that it's quite hard to come up with a background texture that works in two "setups" or situations. Reaper uses the same image for the "detached" and "attached to panel" transport bar. It's the best compromise I've come up with. Looks faily good on both. I'll see what can be done! But don't hold your breath, there's plenty of other stuff to do!

Hey Airon. Quite frankly, after looking at your three screenshots, it's not even close match! My beta2 looks better/clearer than the two others in my opinion. The framed buttons is a consious decision as it gives the desired "beveled" effect and clearly delimits the buttons. Yes, it might look cramped a tad, but look at Cubase's Mixer and Tracks, it looks pretty much the same. I prefer having bigger buttons for easy reading and mouse hovering that smaller areas that are hard to click on.
The metallic button for plugin parameters was an experiment. I thought it looked funky. It might not be the best, agreed, but I never really use those, as I open my plugins' windows to tweak parms.
The goal of this theme/skin is to be able to work and stand in front of the screen for long hours. As the thread's title says: digidesign inspired, not copied!

It takes quite some time and patience to develop something that looks good. Something that can't be done in 30 days. I'm consious of Cockos' hard work as I'm trying to enhance their product with my own point of view. Rest assured that I'll gladly send them money to support their awesome software. Sorry for being rude.

Hey Khorus, I think the new transport buttons look great! I like a 3D look, it's easier to see for me.
