yee ol' theme authors...
Hey,
I just want to say excellent work everybody.. I've just been going through these themes and they are outstanding..
So the purpose of this thread is twofold:
1) I'd like people to submit their themes that they'd like distributed in the installer (and giving us permission to do so).
and
2) I'd like to discuss having an official "theme add-on package"..
The idea being we'd include approximately 10 themes (the most polished and diverse) in the installer, and then have a separate download of TONS more..
Thanks...

I'm not in favor of dark themes, although most of users are. Please make sure there are some brighter themes in the lucky 10.
I would also skip crazy ones like Taboo, Kids, Junior Mint - they are way too colorfull for my taste.
All Inclusive Super Jumbo Color Theme pack is a good idea. Whenever author declares it's finished just put the zip file into Jumbo Color Theme pack zip.

I agree with the idea of having brighter polished themes too because it seems that I always end up using the darker themes as those are the ones that are more polished.. There should be themes done with the appropriate icons having in mind that they are supposed to be bright, right now most of the "well rounded" icon packages don't look that great with brighter color schemes.

i very much like the idea of providing 10 standardized themes with the option of DLing more. Definately the way to go, Justin.
i'm surprised so many people prefer lighter themes. to my eyes, light on dark is so much easier on the eyes. but everybody's different, i guess.
there are a couple existing themes that definately should be included! not sure if the creators still monitor this forum or not, but some may want to submit updated versions. i'd suggest this be mentioned in the main forum, OR, we could email them with a heads-up.

Also, thinking about how to organize all of the themes..
Thinking we should rename them to <category> - name
Where category might be:
Novelty: things like the kids theme or the taboo theme.
Homage/Emulation: themes that mimic other software, or hardware
Dark: themes that are mostly dark
Light: themes that are mostly light
or maybe
Futuristic / Classic
etc
thoughts?

This is a great idea! If only I was creative enough to make icons that looked half descent!!
My sole submission is of my "Clean Cut" theme from back when we first hit Reaper v1.00
https://stash.reaper.fm/oldsb/14355/l...59.ReaperTheme
Can upload a screen if needed. (looks best with ackoustic icepack icons)
It might be a good idea to have a webpage which showcases themes rather than having the forum to do it. Like a proper gallery.
Having a download "ALL" package would be cool too, for those times when you feel like something a little different for a while.

No so sure about this idea, badly categorized (or at least, "in the wrong category by my standards") items annoy me (though that might be partly due to my mild OCD)

thanks for being concerned about stepping on toes. speaking for myself, i'd be honored to have a theme included... whether it's part of the 10 or the huge DL doesn't matter to me.
and yes, i'm fine with turning over all rights to you to do with as you please.
i'm still tweaking Klingon, but i'd say that Shark Dressed Man is done. you can have either or both, if you want.
for that matter, Peas and the others are still around... i just personally prefer Shark & Klingon.

same for me, but while my theme isn't really made by myself (it just combines some of the existing ones but with recolored & remixed icons and my gui-colors) you can have it as long grymmjack, akoustic & youn have nothing aginst that.

I'd imagine they'll be cool with it, since they're stuff's already in the installer anyway hehe..
OK well I'm gonna start putting together a big collection and categorizing them.. When I get something together, I'll post a zip so everybody can go through and give comments...

Hi Justin,
That's an excellent idea, organizing themes into categories. One can't always tell what they look like by just the name, that should make it easier to find.
I'm totally cool(jazzed!) for you to distribute any themes I have or will submit.
Be it PT,Graphite,Aero,...?('guess I should update the pre-metro themes just in case)
Thanks

My Distinct theme is already in the installer, so I am not quite sure if you want me to give you permissions or not, seems like I already did that. Anyway, you can use any of my themes as you like! (although I cant imagine why anyone would want anything to do with my recube theme...)

Don't know if my theme is distinct enough to merit inclusion -- and also it uses Stelzbrock's excellent button icons -- but it's all yours if you like.
By the way...is there a way to link the fader and track gradient settings to the theme? This seems like a pretty integral part of each design.
Cheers.

Klingon Empire is done, Justin. Shark Dressed Man too.
Use either, neither, or both, as you wish.

That's a great idea. I think there should be a "standard" category (or something like that...maybe Professional or Corporate) for the more neutral themes that people are used to with other Pro apps.
Oh yeah, make sure to include a "Gaudy" category! (kidding...maybe)

How about making browsing themes bit easier, so you could browse themes (inside the categories?) by up and down arrow keys? Rather than clicking one by one?

I knew there was some secret-handshake-code for that. It could be still improved as it doesn't show what theme you are currently browsing(?)

You're welcome to ... er ... let's call it Dorian Gray. I'd categorize this as "classic" / "standard" / "boring" / "readable" etc. It's here http://www.cockos.com/forum/showthread.php?p=58752 .
The original Stelzbock theme absolutely must be included as well, of course.

Yes, those nice stelzbock_stealth_UI icons/images are a must have, in any future set of REAPER install themes. A lot of themes (including mine) use those icon sets.
Will they be included with the REAPER install Justin?

Justin,
I've been missing from the forum lately (my mom's REAL sick) so I just noticed that you liked Drivel. I'd be honored if you use it.
I have another one coming with original icons that are "metallic" or chorme looking. I don't think we have this yet. I'm trying to make it look at home with Vista, and the lost "Noir" theme. I think it will look very current. I'll try to finish it tommorow morning.

Justin the best thing to do would be to maybe create an exclusive thread just for people to post in and your posting stating the terms and conditions for including the themes etc.
Then only have people post their themes and say they agree for the theme/s to be distrubuted by Cockos in Reaper.
You then just delete anyone who posts anything else on the thread have it full with people who want their work submitted and obviously you then get the ok from them to put their work into your package. You then can just grab all the ones people have submitted and either select a panel of people who you think represent the "majority" so you want someone who is a pro user (pipe comes to mind but I am sure there are more pro users/industry) and then get them to select what they feel is most practical and then have home users in the panel too. (not saying the weird themes couldnt fit in) but I think your aiming this application at people who want to produce music and being able to see well is a good start. You could then have a section of themes that are "experimental" but really think you need a killer set of 10 that are really good and practical!
That would be my suggestion to get a really good set of themes which will have been chosen by yourself and small panel (it also keeps the agreements easier by just "by replying to this post you agree etc etc legal stuff goes here"

Hey Guys, thanks for the kind thoughts. I hate to be morbid but she's only got a little time left. (Lung cancer, never smoked a day in her life, 69 yrs. old!) I've been with her every day at the hospital, and the only thing that keeps me sane is that I've got my lappy and I work on this new icon set when she naps. It sounds funny, but it keeps my mind occupied. SO YOU BETTER LIKE IT WHEN IT"S DONE!!! (No pressure ha ha
So let's get this thing together shall we!?

eMaRe,
doesn't seem strange at all, bud. i can imagine how i'd feel, and anything to keep my mind occupied would be a good thing.
Justin,
yes, there are a few optional buttons and faders in my UI folder. if it makes it simpler for you, we can delete the extras.
i guess it comes down to which themes you want to include. if you're thinking of using Klingon, then the extra toolbar & track buttons can be trashed. if you're thinking Shark instead, we might want to swap...
ahhhhh geez... this is getting confusing.
i should have done what akoustic did and created seperate UI folders for each theme. that way it would be easier for the end user to pick which buttons they want to use.
i'm a Reatard.
i'll make that change now, Justin. sorry i didn't think this thru clearly. i'd guess that by the time you read this, the downloads will be corrected.
EDIT: Klingon buttons are now in a teej_klingon_ui folder. Extra buttons are gone, but i've left the optional faders included. Shark buttons are now in a teej_shark_ui folder. Again, extra buttons are gone, but optional faders are still in. Both themes have been changed to point to the appropriate folder.

Feel free to use my meager contributions....
However, I have recently switched my "MrMoonPT-D" theme to use the "stelzbock..." icons, as they are easier for me to work with.

I have put online 2 updated versions of themes i made. In these versions, i used Gfear's very nice icons sets.
If you like it, you can use it (one, both, none, as you like)

What would be good is a webpage with all of the themes as large thumbnails that you could then click on to view a larger screenshot.
You could filter out most themes you aren't going to like based on the thumbnail and then find one you do like without missing out on all the potentials a lot quicker than having to view every single theme within Reaper to see what it looks like.

Whoops, already used them thanks eMaRe, I thought that's why you released them. My favourites so far actually
* Actually if you want to modify your fx-on icon to one that stood out more, like the icon itself glows blue or something, that'd be really handy. I really like to see at a glance what tracks have active fx and found yours a little too subtle for me...very nice design though
