Default Send OSC/Midi command when running an action

I'd like to run OSC and MIDI commands when firing an action so that I can remote control a second device as soon as I hit the record button for example.

AFAIK, this is (easily) possible by a script.

You might want to ask in the scripting subforum.

possible, but it would be fun being able to easily connect midi commands to different actions without needing a separate script for each action.

Record button is a bad example, you can insert OSC and/or MIDI control surface (f.e. faderport) and so get informed about all transport changes throw OSC and/or MIDI (without any scripting).

General sending OSC and/or MIDI on any action is possible to implement as an extension, so there is no reason to have it in the REAPER core.

But some scripting/programming (OSCIIBot/JS/C++ like) is usually still required to implement "logic" before sending the message.

Sometimes solution for practical problem can be written within an hour (for example, see Control RME TotalMix FX from Reaper. Be more concrete if you really need something.
