Default Reaper Loops / Alias / Ghosts

Hi, I'm also trying to learn to stream so made a video showing my question.

Ultimately trying to replicate Logic's loop behaviour which someone shows here at 2:18

https://youtu.be/qf6W2sT8osc?t=137

My video asking this and how to create Alias's

Maybe a video wasn't the best way to ask so...

Is it possible to loop an item infinitely until item #2 is placed in the timeline?

Is it possible to make alias/ghost copies of items?

Thanks

To get started, you probably want to check out Razor Editing - https://youtu.be/HEVKLiWkRkk

and Looping - https://youtu.be/gbwq0jC8j-g and https://youtu.be/oOBWvvSoXFk (and probably more Kenny and others' vids)

For your use case:

1 - Razor edit select your desired section.
2 - Copy and paste to new track at timeline.
3 - Un-select the pasted razor edit selection (by clicking somewhere else).
4 - Click on the newly pasted item to select (kind of goofy but a way to get out of razor edit - probably an easier way). Note - this new item is a copy of the entire item not just the selected area.
5 - Right click and choose Glue Items to now have just the selected area.
6 - Now you can drag out the item as long as you want and it will loop and changes made will be made to all looped areas.

It really isn't as cumbersome as it sounds.

Hi, thanks for the reply. The Razor edit video is amazing, I had no idea Reaper could be customised to that extent.

Your instructions are working for me except

"Now you can drag out the item as long as you want and it will loop and changes made will be made to all looped areas."

I can make a Razor edit, copy it to a new track, glue it and drag it out. I cant then edit the original copy as the looped item is one big item.

I'm trying to make changes to the first bar after dragging it out.

It appears that you are attempting to do a fade (in or out) and have it apply to each loop and I'm not advanced enough to know if that is possible.

If you have a midi items and edit notes they change for each instance of the loop.

This thread - https://forums.cockos.com/showthread.php?p=2334884, suggests that you render the section before looping so the fades would be baked in.

Thanks for your help, it's this baking in that I'm trying to avoid, Reapers answer is pooling.

Audio Pools in Reaper are not implemented.

There is also a script called Superglue
https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=264478

I need to read through it and understand what it achieves, certainly the audio pooling, not sure about the linking of edits.

These commands also help.

Item: Propagate to all similarly-named items
OR
Item: Propagate to similarly-named items on track
