Sfzero, Linux Sampler, the Sfz format, etc.
This question can be applied to SFZero, Linux Sampler or any other Sfz player, for the matter : as I read the available docs in the Sfz format page and take a look at some Sfz files, it's clear that it is a rather friendly format for all of us who are non-coders. One thing is not to clear to me, though : is there any way to define in a Sfz file the control of any parameter to be shown in the player, for example as a knob, fader, or anything similar, with a predetermined range? If so, is it reasonably viable to achieve such a thing for a non-programmer person? I'm thinking specifically about some important parameters such as the ones corresponding to an ADSR envelope (i.e., a knob for Attack, another one for Sustain, and so on), Glide, Loop Xfade and any other needed parameter in the context of an instrument.
While there is at least a couple of great free orchestra projects (namely, VSCO 2 and Virtual Playing Orchestra, to name the most prominent that come to mind), I feel the crucial aspect of the performance with those instruments is the possiblity of tweaking live at least the ADSR, and ideally the glide level too, to name only the absolute basics. I hope that it can be achieved, indeed, given the open nature of the Sfz format. Thanks in advance! Last edited by Soli Deo Gloria; 05-19-2020 at 11:03 AM. |

I don't know if you could do that with SFZero but you can do it definitely using ReArticulate which is a Reaper extension created specifically for this and for creating articulation for midi orchestral libraries.
Give it a look and see if it could help you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMdde8jRUZA&t=250s |

Really? I thought Reaticulate was an articulation manager, in the sense of changing between different orchestral patches (i.e., legato to tremolo, trill, pizz., etc.). Can you create ADSR knobs to tweak the amp envelope of a certain patch, for example?

Hmm, I'll investigate the subject... It would be great if it could add an ADSR function to any sampled library... Quote:
Thanks for the link! I haven't seen any mention of it anywhere in the web, during my Sfz searches. I'll take a look at it... |
