Default Video freezes after "short" playhead jump-backs

Macbook Pro
OS Mojave
Issue happening for many Reaper versions (see note “4”)

When playing back video: if I make the playhead jump back a short amount of time (less than 1 second aprox.), the video freezes for a little while and then jumps to catch up with the playhead’s new position.

Same thing happens if I make the playhead jump back this small amount of time by pressing stop/play.

(gifs were too big to attach, so linked here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...Y3?usp=sharing)

Specific facts:

1. This doesn’t happen for longer playhead jumps.

2. This doesn’t happen when I make the playhead jump and instantly start recording (only happens in playback).

3. I’ve tried the option “aggressively update video during arrange edits/scrolls”, but this doesn’t help, and in this mode the issue happens also while recording.

4. This started happening many months ago, in the update that added the biggest amount of new video functionalities (I don’t remember which update that was but you’ll probably know).

This is very annoying for sound design, as I work towards videos andI I'm constantly making stop/play or playhead little jump-backs to check my sfx and Foley.

Thanks!!

After Reaper v6, this is also happening when I do a short jump back from play to record (used to happen only going from play to play or record to play).

Try this:

  • Right click on video window
  • Performance tweaks
  • Video cache
  • All media and video fx are not cached

You've just gave me the best possible Christmas present!! This worked!!! Thank you!!!

Just to know, what would be the downside of having this option checked now?

In my condition, it has no downside, or I can't find one yet.
