Default Akai MPK mini - get sustain pedal to trigger a note

Hi there

Long time Reaper user but forum and MPK newbie here.

I recently bought the MPK to play and record basic synth parts and hammering in drums instead of "writing" them, and it's pretty cool. However, I'd like to trigger the bass drum with my foot. So is there a reasonably simple way to trigger a note with the sustain pedal?

My last resort would be to put a mic on the floor and use MIDI/drumtrigger, but I hope there's a more elegant way.

Thanks for any input.
