I cannot understand why Reaper dev's don't see the importance of this feature. I've been asking/wishing for a couple years now. DAWs like Samplitude/Sequioa, Pyramix and even Presonus have this feature (these are just the DAWs i'm aware of-- there are probably others). It just makes sense to me.
Someone shout out if there is a good reason why this feature would not be desirable.

If you haven't please bump this topic here:

I think you can click "I would use this feature" to let the Reaper team know how to prioritize their resources.
Thanks!

a big +1 from me also.
I'm beginning to think that people who use microphones to record other people playing actual instruments are in the minority here. Some basic parts of Reaper's workflow really aren't designed with those people in mind.

I would have to agree. While we really don't know how many Reaper users record with mics, no grid/tape style recording, it's the little things that are missing for these kind of users I think. One example would be snapping. It's set up for grid users. Anyway +1 for auto crossfade on punches. I voted.

it's not just a problems with mic recording. This happens when recording any audio signal that is punched in over an existing media item.

oh, i know what you mean. I was trying to differentiate between recording audio and recording midi. lately it seems like the majority of reaper users here are producing electronic music using midi, which leaves those of us who track bands somewhat neglected.

Please read http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=38883 before you bump FRs in the tracker and wonder about the short-termed effect.

Ollie,
Thanks for adding the link to the Feature Requests page. It seems like this is a feature that many users are interested in. Is there anything else I should do to document the issue? I read your linked post - All bumps and +1 are here where they should be. All I see in the FR page is "Users who would use this feature 8" Would you like me to be more verbose in my description of the FR?
Thanks,
Jesse

Yeah, I'm combing through the tracker to remove them all (cue Homer Simpson: Boooring!) atm hence they were gone quite fast. Oh, and no, verbosity not needed, the subject of the FR is pretty obvious. However, you can edit your own FR anytime. I think.

I'm still hoping for a fix to this issue. I know if I mark in/out and use auto punch it's OK but for more spontaneous ATR type punches this is still REAPER's one weakness.
There is a feature request entered for this issue already with 13 people voting for and none against.

Please vote if this issue affects you.
Thanks,
