Halo around the selected track's borders?
How can I modify this skin:

To have that halo around the selected track as in this one:
I can't find the option in preferences

I think you will have to open the image "tcp_bgsel.png" and paint the edge.

What you need to do is use overlays. Research that in the advanced theming area and you'll get exactly what you're after. Can be used to great effect.
Cheers.

You are correct. The panel background is an image, and it changes to the 'sel' image when the track is selected. Paint anything you like on there. Edges are a bit more tricky, because you need to adjust the pink lines to stop the edges getting stretched. Here you go : stick this in your blended folder, overwriting the old tcb_bgsel.png:
(I've not tested it, sorry)

Good call, but actually not the case : the _ol extension only works on parent images that are buttons, you can't overlay things like backgrounds.

Hey, man, thanks but it didn't quite work, it just shows a very thin halo on some colors, but not noticeable enough :/ And I don't understand what you did to the image. I mean, I compared them and I see the one you posted is lighter

(in case anybody wonders, the theme with the halo (border) around the selected track is unempty_minima.)
As it has been said above, the border is directly drawn on tcp_bgsel.
The reason it works well with custom track colors for this theme, is the contrast between the track graphic (dark blue) and the border (light yellow). When a custom track is assigned a color, globally this won't change the contrast.. the main graphic will be dark something and the border light something... So the border will always be clearly visible..
Here's one of my failures (just a test theme that has many other obvious bad parts..) :
track 1 and 2 have no track color (so track 2 displays tcp_bgsel.pgn unaltered), all tracks/folder are selected except for track 1.
the border is not so visible on the folder 'bass', and barely visible on the track 4.
As the main track graphic is light, I should probably make the border darker (and remove the lighting..) and a bit bigger, to insure that the border will always be visible. I haven't tried yet, any advice welcome..

Resurrecting this OLD thread. haha.
Thank you White Tie and others for helping with this. Sadly, I can't seem to get the full halo/border using Blank Files' iLogic Next Free 1.1 (my current fave Reaper theme). I used White Tie's attached tcp_bgsel.png and overwrote the original one from the Theme.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
This is how it looks:

That's because blankfiles used the tcp_idxbg images to cover the track panel area. So in this case you would have to edit tcp_idxbg_sel.png.

If you want to make this highlight halo continuous around the panel, you'll also have to adjust the meter position in rtconfig. As it is right now, the meter y position is 0 and since meter will always be on top, it will cover your edge highlight in that area.
The line in rtconfig is
set tcp.meter !0 [270 0 11 120 1 0 1 1]
Change the bolded value to 1.

Thanks again... I can't seem to figure out where exactly to put the white color for the border, with that specific image... with the pink lines and whatnot. I always get confused just exactly how to frame it/paint it, etc.
So new to this. But, this is immensely helpful info. Thanks again!

You're welcome. Think of those pink lines being on the outmost circle, which you can't touch. So when you draw your white border, draw it inside that. IOW, draw the border 1 pixel away from any edge.
