Don't have the screen for the real thing? Here's something that looks and works a bit similar, if you don't mind it looking and working in a way that that is...y'know... not even close:

This is un-freaking-believable. Excellent work!

I predict this will become one of the longest threads in 2012, hopefully with positive things.

Looks very cool. Feel free to msg me if you would like another tester. I'm very happy to give it a go and supply constructive feedback. I'm on a 28" monitor.

Looking good !

I miss seeing a dB readout next to the volume fader for the layouts where gain is posted above on the meters.
There should be a editable field+readout for volume in dB right next to the fader / knob.

If it cannot be in both places, and the fields arent editable it would be also neat to have giant wide meters up top, and the gain readout posted below.

This is all (lots of) work in progress, currently being tested by a few nice gents with the requisite whopping great monitor(s). I'll put up a public build once its ready for that (some time in 2015 no doubt), in the meantime I thought I'd share some piccies just to show I'm not asleep...
Wait a minute.... You mean it will be out in 2012? NOT 2015, right??
I´d pay big money for a theme like that, it´s brilliant!!!

I quite like the Dead Ringer Colonial 4000XL PRO theme, looks pretty great : simple and elegant ! I think I'm more likely to use that one instead of the Imperial theme. Amazing work by the way !

awesome! since we've got til 2015, any chance of making the transport varispeed knob a studer thumbwheel to match the rest of your totally cool studer 800 styled buttons?

see here for wheel: http://apkaudio.com/eBay/Studer%20A812/Pages/3.html

or a really old school studer varispeed?

I am stunned!! These are the best theme ideas I've ever seen...EVER. I almost wept. I will buy another monitor just for this. Actually I was going to get one anyway...but if I wasn't, I would.
Brilliant.

Damn man, I know people sound like a broken record when they say this. But this is the level of "mind-blowing" that should have been shown off in the default theme.

Love everything I'm seeing in this thread. Thanks for sharing, WT.

Wow. This one is just.. beautiful IMO. I cannot wait to use this one! Just.. blown away by this one.

Are there any other themes that have mode appropriate panners like this one will have? I use dual pan mode with stereo tracks, and love what WT is doing.

Justifying that 27" 2560x1440 monitor will be much easier once this theme goes official.

White Tie will probably get some awards for it. If there are no official awards for DAW GUI design that category should be created just so this theme can get more accolades.

Hey man, I just went through this exercise and it turns out the 27" was the least desirable, YMMV of course.

Please do make sure you do a lot of research, lots of folks don't like the 27" as the dot pitch is incredibly fine to get that many pixels in a 27" format (meaning very small text or DPI adjustments necessary) -- as a comparison 30" are 2560 x 1600, the same width and a 16:10 aspect ratio as opposed to the 27" 16:9.

The other thing is that you can get 2 24" IPS monitors (3840x1200) for the price of 1 27" IPS monitor of equivalent specs and you get 921,600 more pixels total.

I went with 2 Dell U2410's, very happy

I have a cheap 24" 1920x1200 monitor right now.
According to this calculator http://members.ping.de/~sven/dpi.html
27" 2560x1440 dot pitch is 0.2335mm, while the 24" 1920x1200 is 0.2692mm or about 10% larger. Is it that big of a difference?
The 30" monitor costs 3 times as much as the 27". Even the 24" Dell IPS you have with fewer pixels costs 150 dollars more than the 27" I was looking at. I have no room for two big monitors- I like to keep my speakers reasonably close.
OTOH two 22" in portrait mode side by side would yield a nice 2160x1920 resolution- plenty tall for the Imperial MCP. You can pick up a 22" for about 140 dollars. Then you would need a dual monitor mount for another 50 or so. Still cheaper than a single 2560x1440.

Cockos should buy this theme from him and use it as the default.
It would kill the competition.

I personally wouldn't want that to happen. This is designed for people with specific setups. The current default theme pretty well takes care of most situations.

Default mixer problems

This is crazy but I cant for the life of me get the mixer up from the bottom of the screen. It is like it is way to long. I have moved it up down side ways and it is still to long I need to access the bottom of the mixer so I can scroll thru my channels. I hope this makes sense. anybody got some info on this. Thanks

If you only have one monitor, you're going to have to switch
between TCP and Mixer.

Did you actually READ the comments by WT on the download page
about monitor size/resolution? This is a 2-monitor theme if
you want mixer + TCP at the same time. The mixer must be
maximized to take up the entire monitor to work properly.

Quoted from the download page:

"The Mixer

Imperial's mixer needs to be undocked and maximised; if you only have one screen then flip back and forth to the mixer using CTRL+M"
