such an unusual question, a bit like asking "what words work in lyrics?" or "what colours work in paintings?"

it totally depends on what you are trying to convey / achieve, and what you mean by "work".
So i would say there's no real answer, but it's worth bearing in mind that music is sort of a maths based system, so tempos and time signatures that are divisions or multiples of each other are often easier from the point of view of juxtaposition or overlaying of continuous or repetitive parts etc. A very simple example being 60bpm is twice as slow as 120bpm so any parts will "work" just as "well" over either tempo.
