Default Mbox (original) not visible in Audio Device List

Hi,

I have the original MBox (before the MBox 2) and I have the CoreAudio driver installed. The MBox appears in the System Preferences > Sound, and is selected for input and output.

But when I launch Reaper, the MBox doesn't appear in the Reaper preferences under Audio > Devices.

Any help in resolving this would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Stuart

I believe that unit (like other Digi stuff) doesn't follow Core Audio standards.

You can see the interface in Audio MIDI Setup though and run the thing there?

Well, here's a good time for Reaper's flexible interface handling.
Try this:

In Audio MIDI Setup
- select the Mbox for system audio input and output

On Reaper Preferences/audio/device page
- select 'Default System Devices' in the Device menu
- uncheck the request sample rate box and set this instead in the Audio MIDI Setup screen

That work?

What OSX version are you on ?
You installed newest driver for your mbox ?

- In audio / midi setup: don't choose mbox for your computer (system) input and output
but set it to internal.
- Restart your mac
- Is Reaper now seeing your Mbox ?

Thanks for the quick replies.

I tried Serr's instructions first. I'm going to try to post some screen shot photos I took with my phone. Unfortunately, it didn't work. When I click on "Audio Midi Setup" in the Reaper preferences > Audio > Device window and click on the "Audio Devices" tab, the MBox appears and I select it for the for the "Default Input and Output." When I close this window, I get the following error: "There was an error while opening your audio hardware. Error opening device. Would you like to view your audio device configuration?"

I'll attach the photos if possible. For some reason it's not uploading the photos I'm taking with my phone. 😩

To answer Vanhaze, I'm running OS 10.5.8 using the Core Audio driver "Digidesign CoreAudio.plugin 7.4.2.

I hope this info and images are helpful and I seriously appreciate you helping troubleshoot this with me.

Many thanks

Again, do NOT assign Mbox in AUDIO/MIDI setup.
Assign just the system in/outs in there (like "line-in" , "line-out")

From there, restart you mac , open Reaper and see if you can assign MBox in Prefs/Audiodevice ,in Reaper.

For some reason I can't upload JPEG of my screen.

Here's what I've done.
1) launch Reaper
2) open Reaper preferences
3) my MBox does not appear in the audio device drop down menu.
4) so I click on "Audio Midi Setup"
5) in the window I leave the "System Settings" to "built-in" for the default input and output. The system output is also "built in"
6) in "Property Settings" should I select MBox there?

Sorry to be so dense.

Many thanks

vanhase's advice is good. I forgot how touchy the Digi driver/control panel stuff was.

Don't have ANYTHING else try to use it. Restarting the computer might be needed. Then see if it shows up in the device list in Reaper. I guess try my suggestion again if it still doesn't.

So far none of the suggestions above work. :-(

For what it's worth, my System Preferences recognize the MBox and Reaper seems to recognize the MBox in that it appears as an option in the "Audio MIDI setup."

But, it never appears in the list of available devices in the Devices window. I know sound is running through the MBox (I can see the peak meter lighting up when I crank the input and tap the mic), but a track in Reaper assigned to that input has no audio coming in.

It seems like there has to be something I'm missing. Granted, this is an very old device and no new drivers are being made for it, but it seems that it should work. I can get it to work in other apps, but not Reaper.

Any other thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
StuartJ
