Default Question on editing midi items

If I create a midi loop I can't trim and drag the loop as with audio. I can copy/paste but this is more fiddly and cumbersome. Am I doing something wrong here?

Thanks

Double click the clip, right click to selection the region of note(s) and then drag/edit them as you need, ie notation position or length. If you want more detail, you can mouse hover and individually adjust.

Just be careful when using the pencil icon because you can delete notes you don't intend to.

Also midis can auto-loop just by expanding the edges it it's already set up perfect.

Clicking and dragging MIDI to create loops is definitely possible. What happens when you try?

Thanks for the feedback fellas.

Ashenwraith - Tried your prescribed treatment but can't seem to get it to work. Must be missing something. Interesting moniker by the way!

Fex - If I record a midi clip of say a bass pedal, quantize etc and then trim the ends to get a nice sequenced loop, when I drag it across using the auto drag facility, it pastes the orginal clip pre snipping! Control C & V works but it interrupts the flow a bit for me.

Gotcha. Make a time selection covering your intended loop source, then right click on the item, and choose 'Copy loop of selected area of items.' Paste it where you want it. Now drag out the copy, rather than the original. This also works for audio; the same problem occurs. It's not really a problem, though - REAPER edits non-destructively. If you are sure you don't want the original, you can delete it, and clean your project directory.

Or, if you don't need the rest or the original content, then just "glue" the item. That will create a new item in place of the original - within the visible borders and without the content outside those borders. It's in the context menu as well as in the action list.

Good point. Correct me if I'm wrong... that would still leave the original intact in the project directory, though not in the project, right?

Fex - Spot on. You're a star. Simple when you know how. I always feel so stupid when someone points out the bleedin obvious.

Gofer - OK. Noted.

Thanks everyone for your input. Much appreciated.

I don't think it is at all obvious. I think that REAPER has an unusual (inspired, brilliant) editing method here, and I know it trips up a lot of people.
