Default Reaper Muted Background Colour [DONE in v6.54 - April 19 2022]

Hi guys, then I wanted to know if it was possible to remove the dark color when you put in mute a track, I guess so, because of Reaper you can do anything. because I want to take it off? Because frankly I bother me and confuses me the view. I hope someone can answer me. Thank you!

'Fraid not - several requests have been made to be able to change that.

Personally, I think it should be in the prefs or theme editor to at least tone it down a little...

Yes, a "Media Item Muted Overlay" option in theme tweaks for this would be handy.

This is one of my biggest pet peeves... It introduces a lot of visual 'noise'... Altho I appreciate it can be useful. Being able to set a % opacity would be ideal.

Has this been addressed yet? I'd rather have a "faded" look on a muted track. Now I'm getting this highlighted appearance which kind of defeats it's purpose I think. Voting this up!

Bump. Ping. And so on . I was searching for this everywhere, and it seems it's hardcoded into Reaper and not changeable, still?

If there is no interest in adding a new color category to the theme tweaker for this, it would be cool if it could at least be adjusted by opacity/intensity in the Appearance options.

Ideally I'd like it to have a typical entry in the tweaker, with a blend method and a color. But at least give us something, haha. I have quite a few mutes in my workflow, usually, and when using a bright theme the arrangement view is full of very contrasting dark streaks :P

Being able to configure this color is one of my few humble wishes for Reaper 6

Maybe Justin just forgot about this one? I don't think it is worth to wait for 6 to implement this (I hope) simple thing.

Maybe if I rephrase it's my super humble wish for Reaper 6?

If he reads this and checks out the track coloring code, it might be in the realm of possibility to implement this related request: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?p=2025014 ... but that might be pushing my luck on these

I agree that this is a really important issue, and that it is not merely "cosmetic". In my mind, and in many others, muted tracks should fade into the background until they are unmuted. As it stands, the opposite happens, muted tracks are brought forward which contributes to problems for a section of the user-base to "read" the arrange screen quickly and intuitively.

That's my specific woe with this, yeah... As it is now, muted tracks are the ones that always visually jump out of my arrangements the most, creating hard contrasting horizontal "zones" for no reason. And I'd like it to be the opposite.

Agreed, no control (dark muted on light theme) = UI problem.

+1 (Almost) everything’s fine with Reaper so far except that one thing.

I spend days to tweak the default theme to be a little more friendly, not have dark grey text on darker grey backgrounds and have more contrast. The last bothering thing is that big dark region when muting a folder and its subtracks. It stands out optically, but should be in the background.

If there only was an option to just have the items greyed out, but not the whole tracks. But better would be to also be able to design or re-color it. Please, Cockos, help us with that! You got such a good product here!

Bumping this in the hope that it gets a look in.

Is this still not possible? Bump. This breaks nearly every theme.

I will bump whenever this comes up. This is bothering many of us so much that I am sure the devs will decide to look into it one day.

This bugs me too. Muting a track makes it visually louder.

Bump and +1 from me!

Preferably in true "as configurable as possible" REAPER style, pretty much as DarkStar suggests here: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=25350

Perhaps the thing to do is try and nudge White Tie about this? The inability to theme this component can't've *not* bothered them at some point.

I'm also interested in being able to theme tracks depending on whether their "master send" is enabled or disabled. I don't think there's any way to do this at the moment, and I haven't been able to find a thread on it, so I might start one.

As it seems that this is difficult/impossible to change I have posted some kind of workaround-FR which might be easier to implement and give the same results as disabling mute-color.
Check it out and please support it if you think it would be a useful workaround, so we might finally get rid of the track coloration:

finger crossed for a solution. I don't even *NEED* any coloration, there should be the option to not see it, this can't be so hard to implement.

My solution was to open the theme editor and make the track background rows darker. The mute effect is still there, but much less visible since there's less contrast:

Now if only I could do something about my clutter problem....
