Actually, it can. You become less anonymous the more you post, obviously.
But that's not the same as having a name that has a *hit record* count.

That is generally my thought, although as well I look at it from the perspective that I do know a few people "across" the net *by their actual name*, and while they may be loons, such as myself, they're at least accountable loons. "Oh yeah, that guy".

.. which I ironically was thinking about just half an hour ago in a bookstore (a place where you walk around to find things to read instead of clicking online). As the music was of the "gentle hipster rap" variety of monotony, I found most of the songs put a lot of emphasis on a wide, squashed peak maybe around 1k, with air band hype. It's a very "soft" sound, and at first glance doesn't sound "harsh", BUT.... hearing one song after another done like this, I get really tired of hearing that forward, Mackie-esque upper mid/treble "shussssssssss". I would consider it "harsh", but probably nobody would listening in the context of just one song.
I think..... "mastering" might be different if the mastering engineer was forced to listen to similarly produced music for 5 minutes before they tweak a mix for a few minutes. The "maximized" 1 octave treble thing is pretty annoying - and harsh, IMO.

Everyone's description will likely vary slightly. However, there are many constructs for describing how something sounds that have somewhat useful communicable capacity. IOW probably no one here will dive for the 50Hz slider when they think it is harsh nor the 2k if they think it sounds muddy.
Just like many will know exactly what I mean when saying my bass guitar sounds sort of "hairy" when I push the tube pre just so. Its one of those things you can't be overly precise about when quantifying, that's not what its for me thinks.

Well, I've used the same online name here and in other music forums for well over a decade, so anything I've said here and on those other forums (I-L, Cakewalk, Rayzoon, MusicLab, Garritan, whatever) can be attributed to me. I've certainly never claimed to be an expert on any of them, but I still stand behind what I said on them. Why would you need my actual name? You can certainly make your own judgments based on the validity of my advice, FRs, questions, statements, right? I know I can without knowing someone's "real" name. It's not that hard.

A lot of this discussion might make more sense
if readers and writers used the term "reputation"
instead of "name".
They are tied together, but what we often GET out of a name
is a sense of trust or distrust - that is, reputation.
And that applies to companies as well as individual experts.
