Default Puzzled about recorded audio no playback sound

SoundBalster Z card.

OK. So I am pretty up with MIDI, but have just bought a new soundcard and it has a mic, so I thought I would give a bit of Audio recording a go.

I have worked out how to actually arm a track and start recording. Startingly simple! Create track, arm it, hit record.

So I record and see a waveform. But then I stop recording and try to play it back and get no sound. The Mixer Master channel and the Track's Lane are showing output that varies as the waveform on the track's lane, but no sound out.

Sorry if this is dumb.

Thanks for any help

Do you have Reaper's outputs set to the correct driver/output?

Options>Preferences>Audio>Device.

Thanks for the reply.

AFAIK yes. If I have a project that is MIDI (which still has basically Audio Out these days) I can play the MIDI track and hear sound. Also, as I am recording, I can hear the sounds from the mic.

Don't know if this helps, but I've got a Sound Blaster card in my PC, I don't use it to record, but it does have it's own ASIO driver. Do you see a SoundBlaster ASIO driver in your device preferences? If so, I think the outputs would need to be set for the speakers connected to the sound card.

Something else you might want to watch out for. If you have the Sound Blaster Pro Studio software installed, you might want to check the settings on that. There's a lot of audio effects in that software that you might want to turn off so it doesn't affect what you're hearing.
