Default Play cursor question

As the play cursor plays in real time is there any way to control if the time cursor will go at the end or the start of it after i hit stop? (i.e either at the point when i hit play, or at the end where the play cursor was)

i want to have that option in real time instead of a predetermined setting that always does same thing (i.e either put the time cursor at the start or the end of the play cursor)

I assume that 'time cursor' means the 'edit cursor'.

In general, using Transport: Play/stop to stop playback moves the play cursor back to the edit cursor position (from where the playback started).
In comparison, using Transport: Play/pause to pause moves the edit cursor forward to the play cursor position (to continue playback from there).
Both Actions start playback at the current edit cursor position.

It's possible to create conditional Actions with scripts or SWS Cycle Actions (to trigger different Actions depending on a specific condition). The main question is usually to find out what are possible conditions to make it work for a particular use case.
As a simple example:
  • If a Time Selection exists: trigger Action #1. If not: trigger Action #2.
  • If playback is active: trigger Action #1. If not: trigger Action #2
  • ...

If you're looking for something else, can you please post more details or a screenshot to show an example.

oh its so simple

so key command Space...to back to the beginning
and key command Enter...to remain at the end (i.e pause)

thanks Solger
