Default Can record, can't hear playback

I'm recording with a Zoom U-44 as a USB mic. Reaper needs to be set to ASIO4ALL to access the mics. Then, when I go to listen to what I recorded, there's no sound form Reaper, unless I open preferences and switch back to my main sound card, a Roland Quad Capture.

Is this normal? I've been using Reaper for years but never to record external mics, either through the Roland sound card or this new Zoom U-44. I've always used direct line-in audio (guitar, into the Quad capture), and I never before had a problem recording line-in audio and listening back to it without changing any settings.

Thanks for the help.

Default

When playing back through a Zoom, the sound will come out the device, so you you'd need to hook it's line/phones output up to your mixer/monitors.

Or you can try adding it as outputs in ASIO4All and include that in the output range Reaper prefs and also add that hardware output onto the master track.
