Thank you Stu, however I'm more a musician + wannabe-producer + able to record my own band from scratch and happy to record my friends in the meantime.

I wish I had those WSW pres but they are my friend's who also owns that studio. We did that session together, it was just months after the studio opened and we both were intensively learning. It's been years now and despite he's got really great space, £8k monitors, selection of top mikes (Schoeps, several Neumanns - including a pair of U87), genuine LA2A (no plugin comes close BTW!), etc. yet he didn't buy a desk. I'm sure he will not do until he can afford a Neve Part of my knowledge comes from his experience.

My modest studio is built around 2 RME Multifaces + a couple of Quadmics which I'm not 100% satisfied with but it's still hard to judge the core reason, unless you record top studio musicians so the only one to blame is the engineer and his stuff...

Zed r16 arrives today. Thanks for all the input. I'm really looking forward to it, this will be a great upgrade from a m-audio profire 2626.

Certainly. So far it's really cool. I haven't done any tracking, but getting it set up as a midi controller was pretty painless thanks to a tutorial that was posted by another reaper user (bbgunn, good looking out buddy!). I've mapped a ton of stuff to it so far, mixed a little, and tried to wrap my head around the anologue summing thing.

So it's been a few months. How are things coming along with your R16? I've been looking at this mixer as my upgrade path since it first came out. Since, I've been using a Ramsa WR-S4424 and a Presonus Firestudio Project. As I look at upgrading my interface to an Echo Audiofire 12 (~$600) I could get to 16 channels in/out and have conversion at least as good as the AF12 with a Zed R16. Time to save up!

I'm looking forward to hear what you've worked on.

It's working out great so far. Tracking is as simple as it could be, and having a 100hz hpf accessible for each track is nice. I love zero latency monitoring. That makes a big difference to me.

Routing back through the board is simple, but I have to admit that I'm a little gun-shy to put an important job back through it. I'm too used to itb work. But, I'll get over it eventually.

I'm still finishing work that was partially recorded on my old setup, so there's not a lot of material that was recorded exclusively on this rig, but I'll post something soon.

Sorry to bring up an older thread, but I was searching for info on the Zed R16 and found this thread and this comment interesting (alarming)...

Don't want to sound like I am bashing you or being negative. I am curious to your comment since I seen later in the thread you stated you were a student in college studying audio... My issue is with analog to digital. I am not a audio scientist, but logically (and common sense) would make me believe that if you maintain pure analog, everything must remain analog, down to the mix (ie. tape). Otherwise, you are defeating your purpose because the mix is going to be converted to digital anyway and your theory of analog is not correct. Tracking analog in firewire/usb will A/D regardless.

Maintaining true analog recordings is pretty much impossible these days. I don't think that's the point. The OP is looking for a character piece. One that adds a unique sonic footprint while improving and speeding up workflow.
