MIDI editor: Mouse-click deselects all events, no matter what action specified
In the MIDI piano roll, a left-click automatically deselects all events, even though "No action" (or any other action, even "Deselect all *notes*") has been specified as the default action for mouse modifiers.
This, especially combined with the ages-old bug that single-click mouse actions are always squeezed in before double-click or drag actions ( http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=115287, http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=175881) limits MIDI note and CC editing possibilities.
(REAPER v5.201)
EDIT: REAPER v5.25 fixed the problem of automatic deselection when "No action" is specified, but the MIDI editor still inappropriately deselects in many other Action / mouse modifier combinations, as discussed below.

yes that´s true and nerves me since a very long time.
No Action should be No action, but always deselect all Notes is one..
and always combine
-except insert Note leave other selected-
deselect with all other things is not the way it should work.
and yes the same of course with double clicks.. etc. pp
this behavior should really be changed.

+1, have to undo or create shortcuts for positioning mouse. Inconsistent.

It is relevant to note that in the MIDI editor's new notation view, single left-click does NOT automatically deselect all events.
I hope this implies that fixing the bug in the piano roll will not be an insurmountable challenge.

This bug has been partly fixed in v5.24 and v5.25 for most of the MIDI editor's mouse modifier contexts:
+ MIDI editor: do not deselect events unless piano roll left-click mouse modifier is set to deselect (which it is, by default) [t=177858]
However, it is still occurring in (at least) three contexts:
Left-click on MIDI note
In the "MIDI note" context, (almost) all the left-click mouse modifiers still deselect all events, even if "No action" is specified. Strangely, some of the actions do not deselect, such as "Toggle note selection", or as FnA found:

Double-click in CC lane
As reported in the thread In the MIDI editor CC lane, double-click + modifier deselects events before calling Action.
Double-click click on CC event

The fact that double-clicking deselects all events before calling its Action, means that double-click + mouse modifier cannot be used to call any Action that depends on, or is supposed to manipulate, selected events in the last-clicked CC lane.
If this bug can be fixed, many of Kawa's nifty CC editing scripts could be linked to mouse modifiers.

Some progress was made on this bug two years ago, but then it just diminuendoed al niente...
EDIT: As noted above, the automatic deselection means that mouse modifiers cannot be used to call any Action that depends on, or is supposed to manipulate, selected events in the MIDI editor.
