Default removing .wav files from folder

Hello folks,

When I'm doing multiple takes so I can pick the best one, is there a way to set Reaper so that when I delete the ones I don't like it removes them from the folder the RPP is stored in. I have it set so that if I fluff up while playing, I just hit the back space key and it doesn't save that track to the folder, but all others go into the folder even if I don't save the project.

It's a bit of a ball ache because I have to delete them twice, once in the interface and once in the folder.

Or am I doing something the wrong way?

Cheers

Phil

Normally, you can't simply delete the source files of audio takes because successive takes are usually all sections of one continuous file. However, there is an action to "stop and delete all recorded media," which is great if you did some bad takes and want to get rid of them permanently and start over, right after recording. Otherwise, you need to glue the take you want (so it becomes a new file) and then the unused take files are safe to delete from disk, which you can easily do with the 'clean project folder' action.

Hello, thanks for that but that video shows something that I already do, I do that when I make a mistake, I did pick some tips up though, I didn't know you could combine actions to one keystroke.

I probably didn't explain myself very well. When I'm recording improvised guitar solos, I tend to keep them all for a while. Then I pick my favourite and want to delete the others in one go, from the interface (if that's what it's called) and the directory. I don't want to delete from both areas.

Maybe it's not possible. I had Cakewalk before Reaper, I love Reaper but Cakewalk didn't save any takes in the directory until you saved the project. It was this http://www.musicradar.com/reviews/gu...udio-20-276436 and I loved it but it was limited so I went and bought Reaper. That's about the only function I miss.

Cheers

Phil

- In Reaper, all Takes you record are hold in 1 audiofile.
As far as i know, recorded Takes can not live as separate audiofiles in your Reaper
Project Folder.
- What you can do. regarding your question is this:
Let's say you have choosen al the right Takes you wanna keep, in Items,
the rest of the Takes you wanna permantly delete, also from your harddrive.

a) Run the Action: Take: Crop to active take in items

b) Run the Action: Script: X-Raym_Glue selected items independently.eel
(you will have to have the free ReaPack installed for you to have this action
available in you Reaper Action List, check www.reapack.com for download).

c) Run the Action: File: Clean current project directory

This workflow will delete all "wrong" takes permanently from your Reaper Project folder.

I assume you could even make a Custom Action, combining a) , b) and c) together, for faster workflow, but i didn't test this..

Hope this helps you !

Highly recommended. Adds a ton more actions and functionality to Reaper.

welcome to a whole new world...

next thing ya know you'll get Reapack as well...

[I know, I know... what's Reapack?]

go over to the JSFX Reascripts area of this forum

...OK... reaper comes with many native actions
SWS adds many more actions
Most of all those actions can be combined into user made Custom actions
which then show up in the actions list along with all the others...

Then there are 'scripts'... usually .lua files... which when obtained via Reapack [or any way] also show up in the actions list and can also be combined with all the other actions as parts of Custom actions...

If reaper wasn't deep enough already... watch out cuz with all that the bottom really drops out into the deep blue sea...

Another short cut would be to delete the files and then save under different name then delete the first project.
