Default How to Render 8-bit Wav?

Hello -

I did some voice over recordings for a client's voice mail system, and the vendor is telling me that the required format is:

Bit Rate: 8kbps

Audio sample size: 4 bit

channels: 1(mono)

Audio sample rate: 8 khz

Audio format: IMA ADPCM

I can select all those options in the Reaper export screen except for "Bit Rate". Apparently the default Reaper Bit Rate is 32k, and their system won't take files at that rate.

I've attached the export screen as I have it set.

Thank you!

Tim

You said you can't select 8khz, but you did in the image.

*confused*

edit: oh i get it... hold on
edit: I'm inclined to say what the client is asking for is impossible. Isn't Bit Rate simply a measure of how many bits per something? And that is decided by sample rate, bit depth, and # channels....
edit: Try this: Export at 2 bitdepth and 4 samplerate and you get 8k bit rate.... or did I export stereo by mistake? anyway, you get the idea.

Thank you for the reply and the logical walk-through. I did set the audio sample rate to 2k, and it produced an 8kbps file (which sounded awful of course).

So it does indeed sound like these are mutually-exclusive specs, thank you!

Correct:
such voice systems (e.g. ISDN) use 8k samples per second, 8 Bit non-linear encoding, which of course is 64k bits per second.
