Default Track notes

I'm guessing I'm not the only one who does this so I'd like to hear what some of you do to correct it.

I'll create a new song and record some guitar or keys or vocals or all three plus other things. However I never bother to write down settings or even what instruments I used. This creates problems if I want to redo something or add on to something.

So,I was wondering, for those of you who do this same thing, do you compensate for this and how?

I know there is the option of entering track notes on each track, but I prefer to have a physical record like a paper log.

Anyone else?
I'm very interested in others process.

Thanks,
Don.....

You can set proper track names, so you'll always know what is on which track.
Furthermore there is the possibility to edit "item notes".
But I can't find a way to set "track notes"? Where did you find them?

I use the item notes gluing the track items or assigning the notes to the first item of the track

In SWS Extensions menu, under Notes. There you'll have track, item, project, extra project and global notes. There are also actions to open any of these notes windows. You'll have to have installed SWS extension to have access to these.

What is missing in the track notes is something that' shows you that there is a note on the track. With items notes you are warned by the small icon at the beginning of the item

I think there was at some point a suggestion to have an icon/button in track panel for this. But since the interface is tried to be kept as clear and simple as possible, anything extra on it would go against that idea.

What I've found myself doing is making the song into a region, and putting details I want to remember in the region name. Then I render the region with the $regionname (sp?) wild card plus date, etc. Long track names, but info at a glance. I render demos as mp3 and put other comments in the 'Artist' tag, which I get Explorer to display by default.

The same details are visible in the region name and the render.

I use VST Notepad in the track FX. When you hover your curser over the FX button you'll see there's a notepad in there. Of course you have to go thru the process of creating the notes, and that's not (as you said you prefer) a "physical record like a paper log."

Another free track note alternative is the MNotepad from Melda production.

Nice tools the notepads.
the problem is still that there is nothing that shows at a glance the fact that there are notes in the tracks

Correct, but if you put the VST notepad at the top of your FX chain (it doesn't even need to be checked as active) and you hover your mouse over the FX button it will show up at the top of the list. That kind of makes the FX button like a note indicator.

Yes you're right Peter but this way forces you to hover all the tracks in order to see if you have notes.
What is nice to have is something that show that at a glance. The item notes does it, more or less.

Track Inspector notepad example:
it has a notepad panel and a markers panel with track's specicif markers that are only shown when the track is selected.
The notepad can have a text field and images, photos of the instruments, the singer, etc

Flavio, did you ever discover a simple way to indicate that a track has a note, while using the SWS notes function?

Oops I missed this message 4 years ago. Thank you very much from 2023 hehe I don't exactly remember when but I added support to read SWS notes too in the inspector panel.
